View Full Version : So my Xbox 360 might be bricked...

I'm not particularly sure right now. Earlier today, I turned on my Xbox 360 and played Call of Duty 2 for about an hour and a half. Then I started to notice that the fans were going very very fast, even though it felt barely warm at all. Then, I got the RED RING OF DEATH. Well, not really. It was 2 rings, which according the Microsoft means that the temperature is over the acceptable limit. However, 5 hours later, of turning it on, and then it shutting down due to the 2RRoD thing, I doubt that it really is warm.

Are there any options I have available to me really? Any tricks? Or do I have to send it in for repair?

Is it abnormally quiet/noisy? Your fans may be malfunctioning.

The fans will immediately kick on and go as fast as possible right when I start it up, then I will get the 2 rings. It seems like the system thinks that it is really hot, so it turns the fans on as high as possible, then it red rings, indicating that the temperature is too high. However, it hasn't been warm at all today, except obviously a little while playing a game for a while.

It's possible the heatsink has lost contact with one of the dies. The fans should slow down when the core is at an acceptable temperature, but that won't help if the sink's loose.

If your Box is still under warranty, ship it off. If not, you COULD try to open it up and see if the heatsinks are the problem, and if not fixable by simple means, pay for the repairs.

you could always try the towel trick.

I know a few kids that've tried this and it'll get it runnin again, atleast temporarily. If the first time it bricked was some weird fluke then this'll "fix" it.

If it's in an enclosed space, take it out. Set it somewhere where it can access fresh, cool air constantly. That way it's not just blowing how air out to take the same hot air in.

I don't think heat is a problem. :v:

you could always try the towel trick. That looks like it would only work for the Red Ring of Death. I have two rings, which does not generate any heat, from what I could tell. He says that "it gets quieter when in the towels". Mine generates no noise, and is just basically shut down after the fans spin.

I just went to the Xbox website and requested a repair of it, so Microsoft will ship me a box, and then I'll send it to them and hopefully get it back by mid-June. Yay!

Woah. Miraculous breakthrough. Kinda. I'm able to boot up my 360, and play games for about 10 minutes, then the fans overdrive and I get the two red rings. I guess I'll still have to send it in for repair, but at least I'm able to play it for a little bit.

I'll get through COD2 veteran, one RROD at a time!

The problem is heat, maybe the factory Fans are damaged, the most easy solutions is, put one 120mm Fan on the back of the console Like this

and put two 60mm-100mm fans like this, (Sorry about the little fan I was fixing it)
http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/282/1000820ne7.th.jpg (http://img259.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1000820ne7.jpg)

I used this to give DC voltage to the big fan

You can use two USB cables, to give DC voltage to the other fan(s), input it to console USB ports, optionally you can use other 120mm fan, replacing the 60-100mm fan(s)

PD: Sorry about my grammar
