I noticed recently that some people on Halopc.net are remaking Marathon into Halo CE. The following posts were by thinkreddie at Halopc.net.

First Post:
I read a topic on the bungie forums requesting a remake of Marathon.
Finally, an idea for a Halo project came to me. Remaking Marathon as a series of Halo CE maps would be beyond awesome.

So, I've decided to try and recruit a team for the job.
We'll need:
1- A modeler, to create biped models, scenery, weapons, and BSPs.
2- A Model Rigger, to rig the models for animation.
3- An animator, to animate bipeds and third/first-person views of the weapons.
4- A skinner, to skin the weapons/bipeds/level mesh.
5- Somebody who is experienced in UVW mapping.
6- Somebody who can tag all of the custom content.
7- Somebody who can populate and build the levels.
8- An uber scripting specialist.
9- A sound person who can comile dialogs, sound effects, and background sounds.

I may have missed some, let me know if I did.
Anybody interested? I can probably take on number 6 or 7.

EDIT: I forgot about sounds. Yes, we'll need somebody to make some sound tags.

Oh wow, Halopc.net. I didn't think DECOY would bother starting it up again after the last two times it got hacked. I remember when it was just a .tk site.

Honestly though, I don't know if these guys have the skill and patience to make something like this happen. Maybe they've changed, I don't know. Have to wait and see how it turns out I guess.

Also, I wasn't trying to bash on anyone there with that last statement but it's been a while since I've seen any of their stuff, so I haven't seen if they progressed from the last time I was at HPC.net.

No big deal. It's just an idea, they've done nothing. I really don't see the point of a thread notifying people of another idea thread on another website that is based on still someone's idea thread on yet another website.

I started working on a model for a .44 magnum a few months ago. Problem with remaking Marathon weapons is the accuracy. The only two side-on images is the in-game sprite (which is useless for plane modeling) and the manual illustration. A lot of the detail has to be improvised.

Also, people may not agree on the biped. There are so many different artworks of the cyborg that no one will agree on one set. The most detailed, accurate versions are the Security helmet and shoulders in Halo 3. As for the rest of the body though it will have to be improvised.

I've done an English assessment on Marathon so I'm very familiar with the storyline and characters.

That happens with most of the projects. I doubt to see this take off anytime soon, but maybe they will prove me wrong.

Sounds like if the project gets finished it'll be pretty awesome. I can't really contribute anything to it, so sorry, but I'll definitely be keeping an eye open for the updates on this. Also, ModderCentral.com, the intro with Breaking Benjamin "Blow Me Away", I saw them in concert. =D

I always thought about tweaking some Halo weapons to act like the Marathon counterparts... some of them would be really freaking easy to do. Just make the projectiles hella slower on most of them... probably port some sounds as well for the lulz.

Unfortunately I don't know anything about Aleph 1 so I wouldn't know how to get the sounds.

Hell, I might work on that sometime...

If someone had read the post correctly, they would have realized we're putting this over to the halo engine as a map series. This is about us, dont really care if you care. Pitiful

With Marathon's graphics, if you do a direct port it will look way worse on the CE engine.

I guess I was just not such a big fan of Marathon, going from Doom to Marathon felt slooooooooooow. Although Marathon was a technically more advanced game.

The model i made wasn't designed with Halo in mind. I was just starting out in plane modelling so I chose a simple weapon like the .44 to practice. Needless to say, as an early weapon, it turned out pretty...bad and if I wanted to make one for Halo, I'd start it from scratch.

I hope this makes it. Nothing's too hard about making a weapon with maybe at most a 3 image referance. I mean, it would be enough to improvise and improve slightly upon. Next to that everything would look much better on the halo engine compared to the 2D Marathon. The process is slightly long (not as long as the CMT mod *cough*) and making maps to actually fit the game would be propotional out of bounds too. I think this would make quite an impact on our experience with Halo mods. Looking forward to it and all my hopes towards the continuation of this project.

Anyone else with me on this?

^^^ what he said... I agree it'd be a cool mod, I wouldn't really want the project lead by someone who's never played the game before though... I haven't even played it either, I'd like to though... when I have time.

Well, not every successful project has been started by a very well known, experienced modder, so there is a possibility that this actually gets done. I agree that it might be a little difficult to take a 2D image, and turn it into a 3D model, but there's nothing wrong with improvising a bit. I hope that this project goes far, and actually comes to light. Good luck.

Possibly through cutscenes? Maybe redesign the three AI and give them Cortana-esque avatars?.

I wasn't thinking a single player campaign, I was thinking more like some multiplayer maps. I reckon to get a really good campaign, a different engine like Source should be used.
