Yes, there's a better tool. It's called tool.

For maximum performance and reliability, use the good old-fashioned command prompt tool. If it doesn't fix the problem, it'll give you output telling you what went wrong.

Also, telling everyone that you were banned doesn't exactly seem like a wise choice. Just FYI.

Tool++ is good for learning on but I recently encountered the same problem, so I just wound up switching to regular tool. It may not be easier but it's more reliable.

As for the commands, just type in [CE root folder]/tool.exe into the command prompt and it should give you a list of commands. If you hold your mouse over the commands in Tool++ they give you a description of what each command does, and you can use every one of those commands in tool.

HOLY SHIT 700 POSTS LOL

yea... regular tool is way better...

heres a mini tutorial on how to get started with that... idk if you know how to use cmd prompt but I'll assume you know nothing XD.

-open cmd prompt by going to start > run > and then type in cmd and hit enter (click run w/e..).

-Once open it should say something like C:\documents and settings etcetc...

-Next type in cd.. and hit enter

-Cmd should jump back a directory, keep doing this till your at just C:\

-Once at C:\ your going to type in cd program files\microsoft games\halo custom edition

-After that if you did everything right your cmd should now be reading C:\program files\microsoft games\halo custom edition.

-Next type in tool and hit enter, a list of commands for tool should then be generated.

-To compile bitmaps follow the instruction for compiling bitmaps.

If you need anymore help with that just post, some of the commands can be tricky, but it usually all comes down to using the commands exactly how tool tells you, and it should work.

-------------------
Now I have a question of my own, I'm hoping someone will read this in here so I don't need to make a new thread. I'm trying to compile lightmaps using tool, normally the numbers come up rather quickly in tool and start counting down slowly. For some reason, its been like 15 minutes, and still no numbers, it doesn't look like anything is happening.

The last thing tool reads is

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition>tool lightmaps levels\test\
map_pre_alpha\map_pre_alpha map_pre_alpha 0 0.9
Couldn't read map file './toolbeta.map'
i'm going to render debug lightmaps for map_pre_alpha of levels\test\map_pre_alpha\map
_pre_alpha, and i'll stop when red+blue+green = 0.900000
.
Hit control-c now if this isn't right.
WARNING: 1 clusters in structure_bsp levels\test\map_pre_alpha\map_p
re_alpha have no background sound or sound environment.
start levels\test\map_pre_alpha\map_pre_alphaso yeah idk its been like that for a while now...

The easiest thing to do is copy the c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe into your halo ce dir. Thats what i do.

Basic tool commands

Bitmaps- tool bitmaps <location of bitmap>
example- tool bitmaps levels\test\tutorial\bitmaps

jms to scenario- tool structure <location> <name of jms>
example- tool structure levels\test\tutorial tutorial

scenerio to .map- tool build-cache-file <source>
example- tool build-cache-file levels\test\tutorial\tutorial

ok its the bitmap a power of 2
2
4
8
16
32
64
128
256
512
1028

ok sapien if you have dual core right sapien click properties then go to compatiblity check run this program in and choose windows 95
if that doesnt work post the last bit of your debug file in your halo ce dir.

I know there was one thing that was wrong with tool++ that didn't work properly. It might have been bitmaps.

or the model function... XD I downloaded tool++ the other day because I needed to compile gbx model for the first time in like, a year, and I can't recall how to type the command in...

anyway, I compiled like 5 models and it stopped working, now when ever I click run command or w/e it just does nothing.

Anyone have an example of how to type the model command in?

tool model levels\test\map_name\scenery\rock

was basically what I was trying to use, didn't work, so idk I forget... I feel like a noob again, I haven't really worked with hek in about a year so yeah.

You guys do know that you can just type "tool help" into the command prompt window and it will give you the syntax for all the commands, right?

(Assuming you have cmd.exe copied into your HCE folder, which is what you should be doing anyway).

Edit: n/m.... got it, I'm a moron, I named the folder model instead of models... XD

legionaire45

do you know exactly what model source-directory means then? cuz I sure as hell don't.

it doesn't tell you exactly how to type out the commands into tool.

I've tried a number of ways to compile it but its not working.

tool model levels\test\map_name\scenery\rock rock

I would imagine would compile the .jms file in the models folder for my rock scenery folder I created.... but it doesn't do anything...

can someone write an example command for me?

http://xs229.xs.to/xs229/08280/whores993.png (http://xs.to)

If I was aware of how difficult using a command line utility was I would have committed suicide when I was 10!

EDIT: Oh. FINE THEN. BE THAT WAY >=| xD

No, learn to use cd.

or you can have hundreds of bat files :)

No, learn to use cd.
:phonegonk:

Why would you want to have to type that mess every time you want to use tool? Just using a shortcut to cmd.exe in the directory is quicker and saves you from having to type 3 trilllion extra lines in each time you want to compile something.

Unless you are saying to use the \k parameter with cd and the directory (or however you do it) in a copy of cmd placed somewhere, in which case I don't see the difference between the two methods besides one requiring more effort to set up initially.
