And why it sucks:
- I thought blades were supposed to be convenient? Now we have a menu/annoying series of boxes for every little thing that was normally all on one screen.
- Mii ripoffs. No, stop, do not go to your quick reply button saying it's just an advancement. Bad, *newspaper hit*
- It's going the way of the PS3. "Oh, check out the media, the marketplace, movies music pictures blahblahblah... oh, right! The games! I forgot about that even though this is a game console!"
- Seriously, what happened to the fucking games? Am I buying a console or a DVD player?
Will think of more once I've showered myself of the conference's phail.

I saw a bit of the new dashboard, and I admit that I like the current one a hell of a lot more. Sure, the new one has a few interesting things in it, but those are pretty much useless. Oh well, there's nothing we can do about it, so we'll just have to live with it.

interference = interface
asses = access
I think he means the blades in-game won't change. While that is true, it still doesn't negate the phail brought on by the main dashboard.

I have no specific views towards MS, but I love the shit they make!

I was hoping that they'd change the in-game blades. Hopefully they'll let you disable animations on them so when you press the middle button in the middle of a game by mistake you don't have to wait for it to slide in and slide out.

Personally, I think this is great. Movies, Friends, Games....now if my Xbox could feed me, I'd be set.

My box ain't connected to the net, so I get to keep ma blades. <3
Bad change is bad. I buy a console for games. If I want a social life, I'll call up my friends and we'll go see a movie, play airsoft, have a LAN, etc.

Well, I wanna be able to socialize without having to see my shitty friends.
This.
I keep in touch with a bunch of my friends back home through XBL. 94% of the people at my school suck at life so I don't really wanna deal with them.... and other than that... there's all the friends that I've made through XBL that I wanna keep in touch with.
More ontopic though...
A menu is a menu, if it loads faster I'll be happy. The current one is so slow that when you accidentally his that home button it could mean life or death.(in some games XD)

Everyone is been far to 'picky' the new Xbox Live Experience coming this fall is going to open the console up to a whole new level.
Not only that but by pressing 'Guide' on the new Dashboard you get the old dashboard and all of its options.
This new 'home' dashboard allows you to create 8-player chat parties with friends, where you can share photos and watch movies together, even join games and stay together.
Also Primetime will introduce a new way you and your friends play socially in the new casual games.
Give E3 time to settle and for the Fall update to hit later this year and all will be raveled on the next step in the BEST online gaming service and Console out there...just wait. [/opinion]
Oh and for those wanting more information:
Dear Xbox LIVE Member,
When we launched Xbox 360 in November 2005, Xbox LIVE was integrated directly into the console. Back then, Xbox 360 was the first system to deliver access to experiences beyond just the disc in the tray. With the Xbox guide and dashboard you had access to everything on your console as well as your community.
We also imagined that Xbox experience would continuously improve over time, through the power of software.
Since launch, you’ve always pushed us to continuously innovate. It is because you spoke with one loud voice that we added new features like background downloading, 1080p support, movies and TV shows, video chat, a Marketplace blade and instant messaging.
Over time, as we’ve delivered more and more content into the Xbox LIVE Marketplace, we’ve heard from many of you that it has become increasingly difficult to find the games and content you want.
And that brings us to today.
Because of your feedback, we started rethinking the entire Xbox experience. What we discovered was that we could not only provide a better experience for you, but also something that reaches out to new audiences.
What John Schappert unveiled for the world on stage at E3 was just a sneak preview, so I wanted to share some deeper details on some of the new features in the new Xbox experience.
Here is a look at some additional features you will find interesting:
· Play from hard drive. Copy your games from the game disc and play directly from the hard drive. Not only will the drive not spin, but load times are quicker, as well. Of course, you will still need the disc in the tray to prove you own the game.
· Access Xbox LIVE Marketplace on the Web. Browse and purchase Marketplace content whenever you want from Xbox.com and it downloads automatically to your console. Purchase that new map, television episode, the latest Xbox LIVE Arcade game or set up a movie to watch when you get home from work.
· Dashboard built into the new Xbox Guide. For everyone who loves the blades interface, it’s not going away; they are now built directly in to the new Xbox guide. Every feature and option is available right from the guide. You can even access your full games library at all times. No matter where you are (in dash or in game), immediately call up your games played list and directly launch a game.
· LIVE Party system. Create a party of up to eight friends, and stay with them from one game to another, or watch a Netflix movie together, or share a slideshow of your personal photos. It works with all Xbox 360 titles, not just upcoming games. LIVE Party allows up to eight people to chat in the dashboard, so you can meet up before playing.
· Xbox LIVE Primetime. This whole new category of games is going to give you more reasons to get online with your friends. Games will support everything you’d expect, like Achievements and leader boards, but many of these games will include real prizes. You can invite your friends, and even set a reminder for an upcoming show. Each game is broadcast simultaneously, so everyone is answering the same questions. Many events will have a live host, calling the shots as they happen.
· Avatars. Your online identity started as a Gamertag - it then grew into a personalized Gamercard. Now, it has evolved even further into avatars. You can express your style, check out new outfits and share this with the community. Avatars will also be integrated into Xbox LIVE Arcade games, LIVE Party, as well as retail games.
· New display support. Because you asked for it, we are adding 16X10 over VGA or HDMI, and support for 1440x900 or 1680x1050.
This is only the beginning. Over the next few months, we will share more details on the upcoming changes.
See you online,
Marc Whitten

While I'm not too keen on new dashboard, the "Mii's" don't really bother me much. I wouldn't really mind spending time making one for myself. The one thing I hope is addressed are the gamer picture (such as my Rams logo) and the themes people have bought for the old dashboard. As that would be stupid if they just took those away along with our hard earned cash.

The 16:10 support is good news for monitor users. :)

Does that mean I can play any 360 game at 1680x1050 now? That would be awesome. Liking the idea of saving games to your HDD too, it'll mean that when I play Halo 3 I don't have to listen to the disc spinning at a million miles per hour ^_^.
Heathen
July 15th, 2008, 08:12 PM
And now you dont have the risk of your disc scratching like hell if your cbox is a little off balance. You could shake the bitch like a baby.

July 15th, 2008, 08:33 PM
Does this mean that I can take one of my friends game discs, save it on to my HDD, then give it back to the friend and still play that game whenever I want? Or will there be means to prevent this?
Timo

You have to have the disc in the 360 for it to work.

July 15th, 2008, 09:03 PM
Too late for me. I could still be playing Halo 3 if that feature was added. >_<
Usually, the Xbox can tell the disc is a certain title, but it just can't read all the content.

Now it just needs a browser :/

I actually just realized, copying the game directly to your hard drive might make modding Halo 3 easier when it's possible.
Edit:

Yes. :woop:

If it became a pc I'd buy it, atleast then I will only need to buy new consoles instead of updating the stuff inside.

Rosco has a point... Though, it would require a fuckton of ports like the PS3 to allow external hardware, i.e. mixers and shit I need to avoid audio hell.
That would also get rid of about 95% of compatibility issues.

For all of us wondering about the themes we paid for, well here is the new dashboard with themes applied.
Pics included (http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/07/16/e308-dashboard-with-themes-downloads-and-launch-area/)
Looks better, but can they AT LEAST round off the box's edges for an even smoother feel?

Dashboard looks bland and unfinished from the video, so maybe if they spiced it up a little...
New features look awesome :)

My thoughts
http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2008/07/dashwiththeme-1.jpg
This is supposedly a theme for the old dashboard updated for the new one. I assume the background changes as you navigate the left scroll menu.
http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2008/07/downloadnewdash-1.jpg
I want that NOW!
Edit: Also note the bottom of the content list. It seems you still have gamer pics, but no informarion on where those are implemented still. My guess would be the guide's friends list/recent players

THIS TOO!!!
It actually looks like it has some win now, but still can they AT LEAST round the box's edges. It'll feel alot smoother.

wait, what? now i see what everyone's complaining about...
ui upgrades 101: whenever providing a "new and improved" user interface, always leave the option of using the "legacy" interface up to the users. I'm not gonna say it's outright terrible, but it's possibly, nay, probable that I will prefer the old interface over the new, and if they don't let you choose, then i'm gonna slap em silly.

And at GamerPics....thats showing the marketplace. They are, t this time, still avalable on the marketplace, so that proves nothing.

Well, the new UI is pretty decent. Being on macs a lot kinda brought the assumption that floating, transparent, black boxes are supposed to be rounded and nice. It has potential.
However, the avatars still piss me off to no end, for some reason. I dunno, I just don't want happy, inhuman, cartoony 3d characters (unless it can be a TF2 character :awesome:) that will follow me around in my games. I'd prefer my Marathon icon, kthx.

Thanks LinkandKvel!
It actually looks quite nice with themes. If I can access my friends list quicker than the current dashboard, that would be great :)
