Like some of you might already know, I've bought myself a new wide screen monitor to hook up with my laptop in a dual view configuration. Well I've been having some problems with this.

First of all the specs:

Laptop screen: 1280 by 800 pix (set as secondary screen)
New screen: 1680 by 1050 pix (set as primary screen, Icons and taskbar go here)
Nvidia 8600MGT 256MB DDR2 (and don't start with you GPU is faulty, because its one of those bad cards by nvidia, because it's not, only the DDR3 versions and A1 (revision) have that problem).
Vista Home Premium SP1.
Other specs see in the list.
And now the problems:

When I boot up my laptop, it seems to randomly select in which direction to expand my screen (this has to do with your mouse, that can go from one screen to another. Sometimes I need to get the mouse to the right and sometimes to the left) Is there a way in making this set, so it does not pick it randomly?
It also when booting seems to be picking it primary and secondary screens randomly. Anyway of fixing this?
It never keeps the resolution settings for my external screen.
Not really a problem this one, but still: How do I set up a 3dsmax to go over both monitors./ I've looked on the net and in the help files, not much help there.Any help would be greatly appreciated. If anyone else has troubles with multiple monitors I suggest posting them here too, so we can make this some sort of multiple monitor problem solving thread.

Once you set the monitors up it shouldn't change :raise:

It may be an issue with the laptop wanting to be the primary screen, or just a buggy driver.

To use apps spanned across two displays right, you should run the displays in span mode. They need to be the same resolution for this.

On a laptop, it's not usually a good idea to make a separate screen primary as there are so many different things (in any OS) that will forget your settings. Could be what's screwing you over anyway.

K, I found out how to set the mouse thing, even when windows boots up with different settings, but still doesn't save it, and probably won't be saving it anytime soon.

for those who want I have the url for the mouse thing. http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/e6cf7ff3-1486-4a1e-bdf0-00478ef301891033.mspx#ECE
