Where are you buying from? The Intel Q6600 is now on $194.99. I'd go with that

His setup is the best there is, and I doubt someone else will take the time to find the parts for you, not like theirs would be better than Legionnaire's anyway.

Sup, Wraith. It's funny how you spend more than you need to on a power supply yet you spent almost half of that on the video card. All you really need is a a good Antec True Power Trio 550W (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371002&Tpk=truePower%2bTrio%2b550) PSU and spend a bit more on at least a GeForce 9600GT (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130360). The rest should be good. It'll say you some cash in the long run because soon you'll find that the 8600GT just won't cut it for anything. Wouldn't it be nice to finalyl be able to participate in extreme fleet battles and not have your video card shut your dreams down?

That's not an issue. Sapphire and ASUS cards are the most reliable. Man you people seem to like to destroy your cards just to see how good support is. I'm running a Powercolor X1600PRO that I've had running continuously since November 2005. That's almost 3 years with no problems. Don't be afraid to buy a video card or shout out that a certain company sucks without evidence!

I wouldn't say a certain company sucks without either personal experience with them, or reading about it on other places. Unfortunately, I've had the experience of doing both with Sapphire.

When you're buying a new video card - all of them are the same. The only thing different is the sticker that comes on the heatsink, and the people backing up the card. Who cares about the sticker? So basically you're paying for the warranty and the support you get with it.

There we go, that's what we need to see. I never had problems with my Atomic HD3870s so I never needed support.

That's not entirely correct. With the HD 4000 series might be but previous generations of cards aren't all like that. The Atomic/Toxic HD3870s were probably the best out there because of the superior cooling methods.

Looks good but the case is a little plain but it's probably not an issue since you picked it out yourself. IF you can manage to muster together $20 more you can get the HD4850 which outperforms that 8800GT by about 3 times.

I only have slight technical knowhow so I picked those for the price and what I know. Is all that compatible?
And to my other problem. My HDD is fine and dandy and still has XP partitioned on it so: Can I just pop it into this new rig and boot it up as if it were the old comp? Or do I have to reinstall XP and redo my settings/user profiles and reinstall my programs?
About the card, I just trust Nvidia more because I know the brand and every card I've had was one. So excuse the choice if you think one's better.

It is true but you can still get your files quite easily. If the drive itself is not corrupt, you may install Windows XP on a different drive using your new hardware, then pop in the drive with all your shit, reboot into the new drive, go to My Computer and then just copy and paste shit off of it onto the new hard drive. Usually, if you can borrow a friend's drive that is larger and formatted to your new hardware, you can just copy and paste your shit onto that drive, reformat your old drive, reinstall XP by deactivating your current OS Key(only for activation after installation on the freshly formatted drive) on the current drive, reinstall windows on the formatted drive usign the same key and copying your shit back over. Once that's done, just activate using phone service and the phone operator will ask u a few questions, deactivate the key on the old account, and actvate ur current windows install. After that, just reformat your friend's drive and send it back to him.
It sounds complicated and a hassle but it's not that boring to do. It's pretty easy. Could have that done in about 2 hours depending on farmatting and install times.

Wraith, listen up because this is the last time we're going to tell you. Relying on a brand you know and trust is great but when the people who actually own and recommend the card, do you not trust us? You trust a money making company more than us?

All I'm going off of is that multiple reviews says it has heating issues and this comp is going to be in a tight space in, not to mention, a generally hot room. I need something that isn't going to burn out on me.
Also the 8800GT is $20 less for something that absolutely exceeds what I need. I don't know why I would pay more for something I don't need. I'll build my own, better computer when I move out. This one stays with my family.

I'd say that's a good call but you must remember don't have any issues with it besides the heating. Still I like a cool case and who doesn't? If you are absolutely sure, go ahead and purchase the 8800GT.

@Wraith: FYI, the 4850 was designed to run at those temperatures, and even then, all you have to do is alter a file to make the fan run at a higher speed. Done.
4850 > 8800GT by FAR.

Use a grounding strap so you don't run the risk of frying a component with static.
Make sure your wires are not obstructing any airflow.
Try not to connect too many things to the same rail. That can lead to overloads.
BIOS is pretty self-explanatory once you get in it. Boot priorities, clock multipliers, etc.

you dont see that what you'll need in 3 months time will be Vastly different to what you need now?
and that a 4850 will save you hundreds of dollars on down the line.
