It's nice but not HRH nice. I like the lighting. The only thing you could really do to improve from here is re-model it.

Agreed - lighting makes me very, VERY happy. However, I'd like to see some serious changes, not just lighting and minor texture swaps. The cross pattern bump looks really wierd at places where it's at an angle - I'd like to see you at least fix that.

Also, do us all a favor, use [shot] instead of [img] for images that large.

As the others have said, it's really nice, but the model could use some work. I'd really love to see Longest with a better quality model. Also, I find that the purple lights don't really fit the map too too well.

Never noticed them. I will change them to mix in with the base color.

As many people have brought up, yes I am using the default longest model. I am NOT going to change it. I'm trying to make the best of what bungie has to offer. (Although, I have to admit, I did fix alot of the UVW errors on longest.) :D

i should remodel it in covenant architectureIf so, make sure to give it a purpose, not just Covenant-esque textures and a few arced edges strewn everywhere. So far, the only official multiplyer Covenant maps have been a storage area, a hydro-processing facility, a Prophet's sanctum, a ship's bridge, a Scarab production line, and a relay/research station. Take a look at specific pieces of architecture that make those levels unique, as well as recogniseable. I'm sure that you'll do a great job if you undertake it, but feel free to bounce some ideas off me or ask for some tips.

Hey, I'm saying it not only for him (which I said I was sure that he'd make it great no matter what) but for everyone else, too. Finding a way to merge form, function and gameplay can be tricky - I know this from experience. I'm currently working on a highly-cohesive singleplayer campaign (still in the concept process, but quite hammered out at the moment) which will also have many of its segments doubling as multiplayer environments, and I've had to make sure that every space makes sense and adheres to the overall function of the area, works with the form to be visually interesting, unique and recognizable, and molds gameplay how I want it to be for that particular area.

Also, you'll be seeing some time in the distant future, remakes/reinventions/expansions of Chill Out, Hang 'Em High, Rat Race (should be released soon, actually, once I find somebody with free time and HEK experience), Gemini, Terminal, and Construct, along with some original designs of my own.

Or remake it in Forerunner architecture. Its hardly forerunner-esque.

Although I sound like a total cock saying that bungie isn't doing forerunner right.

Sever
October 16th, 2008, 11:12 PM
Bungie did H1 Forerunner correct in SP, but not as full-blown in MP. Simple as that. They had their well-justified reasons, but now that we've seen more depth to that architectural style and know how far we can push the game engine, we can go back and do it with more detail.

Well, the MP maps were mostly generic structures with forerunner textures applied. They didn't put too much effort into consistency, considering Boarding Action has forerunner lights, if I recall correctly.

Yes, the gameplay is the most important thing, but having amazing graphics (Ã* la Crysis) really adds a good feel to it. If two games had equal gameplay, I'd take the one with the better graphics. However, if one game had amazing graphics, and not so good gameplay, and another game had not so good graphics, but amazing gameplay, I'd take the gameplay anyday.

Crysis was terrible though. I mean yes it was pretty but only a few computers could even run it at high settings and even the ones that could (like mine) had issues. I played the game for 30 minutes then the camera bugged out and I had a view of both the 3rd and first person arms. Could'nt fix it so i started a new game. I got like 2 hours into the game then I got a checkpoint RIGHT as I died. So I uninstalled that bitch and sold it. I had no remorse for selling it either cause the game was mediocre. Not really that fun at all even though I didn't even try the multiplayer.

Anyways, the point I'm making is that if a company spends all there time on pretty graphics they forget the important part: Making it fun to play and getting rid of all the annoying bugs and shit.

BTW Starcraft is a pretty fugly game but its on my top 5 list of greatest games ever for pure amazing gameplay. Followed by Nox (http://noxhub.net/), the first game I ever mapped for.

Hotrod
October 18th, 2008, 01:38 PM
I've never had any problems with Crysis, even at Very High settings, and it gets better along the way, since the beginning isn't all that great.

What are your specs anyway?

Inferno
October 18th, 2008, 02:08 PM
Not 100 % sure but like a Nvidia 8800 GT and a dual core Intel processor with about 2 gigs of ram I think.

Game ran fine besides the bugs on medium high settings.

And is that the default grenade times?

I think this is gonna go right up there with bg-sorrow.

Sounds like Hang 'em High, and who doesn't love Hang 'em High?

I do, but artistically its not awesome. It did have more forerunnerness to it though. I did mean that I would rather both. I would rather play a fun game that looks like shit over a great looking game thats boring as hell or just terrible to play. No doubt.

Add a nice camera shake to the sniper trigger damage so it shakes when you fire. This would add a bit more skill to using the sniper.

Unless you're going to give the Assault Rifle a significant power boost, I strongly recommend against adding recoil to it. It's underused enough as it is.
