Basically just looking for Crit. The last time i animated was about 4 or 5 months ago so I'm just starting it up again. There not terrible but I think they need some tweaking.

If you've got some tips for animating throw them out there for me.

Jump animations?

Fix the reload. Its to smooth. When you reload, its not going to slide in like butter. Add force and make it a little slower.

?

Or am I mistaken that you need FP jumping animations?

Looks fine to me otherwise.

There is no FP jump animation.

The anims are very smooth, too smooth if you ask me. The origin itsself looks uncomfortable, the left arm is very rigid. Regardless of how you may really hold a pistol, it is best to always keep the elbows bent in the origins.

How can I make them less smooth then?

And I don't see what you mean by the uncomfortable origins. They look fine to me. The elbow is bent normally

The origin, eh, if this is going into Halo 1 you might want to aim it up a bit, it's not exactly pointing at the center. Shove a cylander onto the barrel and use that to make it aim at the center, but if you feel it really does look fine, then OK.
Now, move your arms, they seem to be sprouting from the side of your head. You can move the armpits to a more comfortable position (not sure about that actually), and that should make some animations look a little better in terms of being more natural. Just pretend to hold a pistol, and throw an imaginary grenade. Do you toss it from the side or more overhead? Also, it seems like it just slide back to the origin just like butter also. What I mean is, look at the left hand after you put the clip back in, seems a bit shaky, or maybe it was the right, hard to tell. Looking at the fire after a while, it seems a bit to powerful, especially when you're holding it with two hands. Overall, it seems pretty good for coming back from 4-5 months ago without practice.
Edit: This post was made without looking at the above picture

The problem with the reload is that at the end of the anim when the arms go back to the base position the right hand rotates around in a tight circle for some reason. IDK why though cause there's no key frames there.

And I think your right about the firing anim its a bit to powerful for such a small pistol.

I'll tweak that a bit.

that origin picture you showed has something seriously wrong with the left elbow.

That's kinda weird since I just borrowed the CMT pistol origins and adjusted them to where i like them.

So what's wrong with them?

You have great smoothness. Most people (including me) can never nail smoothness on their first tries, but you did. However, it is a little too smooth and on the magazine insert on the reload could be a little more snappy. He's not just putting the mag in place and sliding the clip in, he's finding the magazine catch, and jamming it in. Also, like everyone does when they first do animations, your throw grenades suck. Your arm does not come out of the side of your screen.

Yeah I know. Grenade throw is a tough one. Also I just lowered the melee by 8 degrees the hit is more level now so it looks better. On that note Ima go sleep cause its 12:10 here.

The first thing I noticed was the firing. It seems way too powerful, and to me it seems more like the hands are moving the gun than the gun is moving the hand.

I like them.

No, that is NOT how elbows bend. The entire left arm (thumb and fingers included) is messed up beyond reason. Get yourself an IK animation rig, watch these tutorials, and then redo everything.

:gonk:

God I hate it when I lose a days work...

Your not losing anything. Every attempt is worth saving. As time goes by it develops nicely into a portfolio that outlines your improvement.

I know but still. I worked real hard on those and there obsolete. Bleh.

Aww, My support goes out to you mister. Don't look at it as time wasted, because you gained experience and knowledge and you'll improve. Be positive. :)

I have attempted the assault rifle 22 times, the battle rifle 18 times, the sniper rifle 10 times, the pistol 4 times, the list goes on and the numbers go up. Trust me, its worth it to keep your old animations.

I know but still. I worked real hard on those and there obsolete. Bleh. This is probably the number one cause of mediocre work. Once you get past this feeling and you're willing to put in the work that is required to make a beautiful piece of art, you'll get just that. Try to get that thought out of your head. If you plan to continue in this line of work, you will have to redo things... A LOT. Seriously, I used to be the same way as you back when I made all the terrible stuff I used to make. At some point I decided to forget about "how hard I worked" on something and just redid it. The quality of my work skyrocketed. So, keep at it, and don't see redoing something as a waste of your prior work; instead, see it as an opportunity to improve.

If you're anything like me, with each step forward, you will look back. When you see what your old stuff looks like, you will want to go back and redo everything you did before, because it's almost embarrassing how bad it is. So yeah, just don't get down about having to redo something, it'll only make you better.

Well that was the thing. I re-did the Reload 3 times the firing twice and the melee 4 times just for this weapon already. I don't mind having to redo things it was just that I thought I was getting close to finishing this weapon and starting on the SMG. I'm a little disappointed but not at all disheartened.

:o

I've attempted the AR almost 30 times, the BR about 23, the sniper rifle only 4, and the pistol about 10.
(PS: most of them suck)
Wow.

I didn't realize until I read that post how many animations I've done.

idk, but i think he recovers to fast from the shot, maybe like a 1/3 sec longer at the top of the recoil. Otherwise looks great!

I started watching those videos lag linked me. They told me the arm position didn't matter that much so long as it wasn't on screen... That's irony in a way.

Btw those tutorials are hilarious and It showed me a couple of things I didn't know which is useful.
