My cell phone is for business and emergencies. I use the internet for communication; I don't have a fancy phone or a fancy plan. I pay for every text message i receive.
This is why it pisses me off to no end that my 12 year old brother who just got a cell phone keeps sending me forwards. I just received a message that looked like this, and I swear this is not an exaggeration:
FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FW D:
FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FW D:FWD:FWD:
FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FW D:FWD:FWD:
FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FW D:FWD:FWD:
FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FW D:FWD:FWD:
FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:FW D:FWD:FWD:
Guys! Forward this to everybody on your contacts list! We're going to set a world record!
I won't bother to get the exact text of the message, but you get the gist. This was one of those huge messages that costs extra- apparently the text had to be sent as an attachment because it had too many characters. These things add up on my bill.
I have told him at least a dozen times: DO NOT SEND ME THIS CRAP.
Is there a way to set it up so you only accept text messages from certain numbers? Fuck it, I never use text messages anyway. I think I'll see if I can just remove it from my plan.
I'm thinking of charging him for the dozens, maybe hundreds of forwards he has sent me, adding up on my bill.
Christ, this kid is 12 years old. When I was 12 my parents only let me use the internet when I was at school, under supervision. How the hell can he send so many texts, and why the hell do my parents let him get away with it? I think what they say is true- by the time my parents reached their third boy they were too exhausted to keep being good parents, and just kind of let him run amok.

If you have a phone from this century, there should be an option to not receive forwarded messages.

Steal his phone and remove yourself from his contacts list.

I never understood why people had to pay for things they may not even want in the first place... Choosing who you receive calls/texts from seems to me like something that should be standard.

Talk to your parents and have them tell him to stop. Also, make him pay for the messages on your bill.

I just can't understand my brothers. My younger brother, who is 17 now, once had a bill that was over $350. It was like $30 for the base plan, and then $320 for all the fucking text messages. I mean, how the fuck?! My bros have a problem.

That's absolutely nothing. My cousin once had a plan for 1500 txt messages. She went over by more than 4,000. That's crazy. The bill, was WAY over that $350 mark that month.

People here mainly talk by text, but i'm really surprised at how expensive that is o_o. Here it's free to receive texts (unless you've subscribed to some stupid horoscope thing or something), and you can get 2000 texts for $10 if you're that into it (although it's only to one of the two cellphone providers otherwise 20c/text). Calling is pretty expensive though.

You guys have weird plans o_O.
I get unlimited texting and unlimited calling for $60 a month. Only thing I have a limit on is my data usage if im surfing the web.

I also get charged for the numerous telemarketer calls I receive each month. Most of the time I see that it's an unknown number and don't answer, but sometimes I'm expecting a call from someone I don't know, or just answer without thinking about it, and then I get charged for 15 seconds of "NO I DON'T WANT TO BUY ANYTHING. STFU AND GTFO."
I'm starting to wonder why I even have a cell phone. I should do what my friend did- buy a PSP and a bluetooth headset, and get skype.

I still have the same contract that I started with when I got the phone, Christ, it must have been 5 years ago. This phone is an antique, and so is the plan.
E: and the telemarketers thing has to do with the fact that this is a business phone and I give my number out to business related people, and every once in a while some telemarketer will call and say "have you considered getting a Yellow Pages ad for your business?" and I say "We design and manufacture interplanetary spacecraft. I don't think putting out an ad will increase our customer base."
