So due to my bad luck, I once again, have lost my primary computer to a graphics card failure. I'm trying to run CE on my laptop, until I can get a new GPU, but for some reason it will only play in 640x480 res and if I try to increase it ingame, it quickly switches and then goes back to 640x480.

Anyone have any idea how to fix this? I thought about re-installing, but im playing the game off my external HDD, which contains the CE directory from my desktop.

You're a hardware killer, bro.

What card? Update drivers? You can use the -vidmode width, height, refresh launch option if you want.

It's a 7900 GS with the most recent drivers. How do I get vidmode to work, just after the shortcut do -vidmode 1600,1200 ?

Yeah, and the refresh rate. There's another way to do it, but this is the easiest.

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\haloce.exe" -vidmode 5760,1200,60 -console

I never knew about that shorcut, is it possible to force a 1680 x 1050 res? or only the ones halo says are usable in game?

You can set it to any resolution, as long as its within the limits of of your monitor. (Or if its in Window mode...within the desktop resolution).

Btw Masters, are you using Halo in Full Screen or Windowed?

Make sure you have a refresh rate at that resolution that your monitor supports, I've done 1280x1024 at 120 HZ and it just immediately reverts.

1680x1050 worked, but it cuts the bottom of the screen off for some reason, and that is my res for the screen.

Using vidmode usually makes the textchat bar not work, but that's an ok sacrifice for having a native resolution.

Because halo's FOV doesn't scale with the resolutions like it should.

You can force whatever resolution you want, but it'll still just be a stretched/smooshed 4:3.

That is wrong you are wrong.

@InnerGoat: what kind of monitor has a 5700x1200 resolution??

And if you use a 4:3 res on a widescreen monitor, that's when you run into problems with stretched/skewed graphics. But a non-4:3 resolution (most commonly 16:9, but there are some obscure ratios) won't.

It's quite simple to figure this out. I just guessed it be multiple 1920x1200 resolution monitors since the height is 1200 pixels. It is indeed three 1920x1200 monitors that goat is currently using on his computers at an overall res of 5760x1200? 1920*3 = 5760px.

I have proof of this but I can't say where :-3
