So, I'm looking for a new processor, I personally prefer AMD, but If a intel one of superior power is availiable, I'll take that. I'm looking for a Processor with a socket of AM2 (Same as the 3800+, Btw, does Socket AM2+ work on Socket AM2?)
I'm looking at these two cpu's

Which one would you suggest?
Also, Does PCIe 2.0 Affect cards that Are not in SLI/Crossfire?
And How much would It improve my preformance on my HD4870?

however you wont get the same performance as you would with a real am2+ mobo.

Wait, so let's say that he wanted to get a Phenom, which is for an AM2+, it would work in his mobo? What if I wanted to do the same, would it also work, even though I have Vista?

it depends, most am2 mobos have bios updates that support am2+ procs... just check your mobos support site.

also, operating system has nothing to do with it.

Yeah Bacon is right. You can put a phenom or toliman on an am2 processor, although the performance won't be the same.

That's the superior of the two, but if you want me to find something better give me a price range.

Thanks Xet I appreciate it. If I could rep you I would. Yeah Xet is right that new 6000+ is nice.

The Intel Core i7 processors are overclockable to be on par if not better than that. If you're not into overclocking though, go with the 6000+.

I plan on getting a new hdd, a new mobo, a new processor and thermal paste

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152102 < Hard Drive

And possibly this along with the above http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227335 < Ram
All that should run all hunkey dorey with my hd4870 Right?
All that for a Total of $305.95 After Rebate without tax.
Hmm, Add a 20$ case, a decent 40$ power supply and a Nice Vid card, and you can run crysis at Very High for under 600$
:conspiracy:

It'll all work together, but it's not an Intel setup ;).
