View Full Version : President Bush Gets Shoe Thrown At Him In Iraq

Limited

Wow, this is hilarious. President Bush has a surprise visit to Iraq and some dude in the crowd hurls his shoes at Bush, luckily Bush has some ninja reflexes and goes matrix on that bastard.

I cant believe he had time to take off his other shoe and lob it at Bush, I thought his people would have been in there like a shot and bundled the guy.

I wonder if he ever got them back.

Video on website!

I also love the fact the video has like 5 replays of it :D:D

That was actually a pretty good dodge. The guy can't may not be able to count to 1, but he can sure avoid some serious footwear.

Well, even though he might dislike Bush, what will throwing a shoe at him do? Will it make things better for anybody? No, unless you call the reporter being a little more happy inside a good thing.

I'm not a fan of Bush, no, but that doesn't meant that I think he deserves to get a shoe thrown at him.

Er...yeah...that's bad:

Correspondents said the attack was symbolic. Iraqis threw shoes and used them to beat Saddam Hussein's statue after his overthrow.

Reptilian reflexes at their best lololol

But seriously, this guy must be on a ton of antidepressants, amphetamines or whatever just to get thorugh the day. I mean look at him, everywhere he goes, at the very least he's facing suspicion and wariness most of the time it's just plain hate. Bush bashing became socially accepted and generally applied, hell even his own staff hates him.
I'm not trying to excuse any of the bullshit he allowed to happen, but I find the amount of emotional dullness and apathy required for this job as a sockpuppet quite peculiar.

Wow...really? One complete imbecile who has no common decency and respect for the most powerful man in the world, is now labeled heroic and a statue of a shoe is erected in the honor? Wow.

Yes the video was hilarious to watch, I didnt like bush, but this is just taking it too far, their making a mockery of the US and the western world.

I think Bush is probably one of our worst presidents, behind Carter (worst president) and Nixon (2nd worst president). I've never really been one of those conspiracy freaks, but I know Bush pulled some ties with his friends to get elected, and technically should never have been elected in the first place.
The day I found out Gore should have won when they retallied the votes was the day I started to hate Bush. Then we went into a war which is very similar to Vietnam: No one can win it, and everyone wants it to end, save the major corporations and the oil industry, who (was) using the war as an excuse to drive up gas prices to $4 a gallon, at a huge profit.
As Winston Churchill (I think) once said:
"Capitalism is the worst system, except for every other system." (Or something to that effect, the quote was in my head but I lost it when I wrote it down.)
But I digress.
He turned our economic SURPLUS into the largest deficit in 30 years, sending us into the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression in the 1930's.
I cheered when I heard about the shoe-throwing on CNN, as, thanks to my advanced world cultures class, I knew what throwing a shoe meant in the Middle East, and I just let out a silent cheer to myself after I saw that shoe statue.

I say Iraq lets that reporter go. The fact that he was imprisoned violates one of the liberties that Mr. Bush was supposed to protect: Free speech. Not that Bush gives a shit about our liberties, especially since his Vice President thinks he can get away with anything he wants to (including murder), since he is only mentioned in the Constitution and there is no definition of his powers or restraints.

I heard around my school that the U.N. is charging the Bush Administration for war crimes. I sure hope that's true.[/rant]
I now expect to be put on the FBI watchlist. I already get stopped at the airport every time, and my luggage always has a notice in it that it was checked by Homeland Security every time, so maybe I'm already on it.

Mr Buckshot
January 30th, 2009, 02:47 AM
Bush sucks, but I disagree that he had responsibility for the economic downturn. Yes, he squandered a LOT of money on his "war" in Iraq, but as for the current conditions...we can only blame ourselves.

I agree with Limited in a way, throwing a shoe wasn't the right way to express his contempt. He should've come in with a megaphone and recited all the incriminating stuff at max volume (in English of course).

English Mobster
January 30th, 2009, 02:54 AM
However, the megaphone would not have gotten him nearly as much respect from the Islamic people.

In order to get WHY he did the shoe and not anything else, you have to understand Middle Eastern culture. I studied it for a couple weeks or so, but I can boil it down to there are certain customs to follow to express contempt for someone. Your statement won't be taken as seriously there unless you express dislike for someone in a way that follows their culture.
For instance, if he had given the ex-president the bird, it would not have received NEARLY as much attention as the shoe-throwing thing, in the Middle East because shoe-throwing at authority is seen as a sign of courage (and him being arrested because of it is a form of martyrdom), and in the Americas because throwing your shoes is seen as bizarre here.

tl;dr: In the Middle East, throwing shoes at people is as common as flipping them off is in America, with much the same effect.

Mr Buckshot
January 30th, 2009, 02:56 AM
well said Dark Side.

If the president invaded Canada and then had a speech like this in Canada, I'd fill a water balloon with diarrhea and throw that at him. Even if it doesn't hit, splash damage ftw

SnaFuBAR
January 30th, 2009, 02:59 AM
It's an Islamic insult, because the feet are dirty. We do not point our feet in the direction of the qu'ran or step on any literature. It has nothing to do with ARAB culture, it's ISLAMIC culture as a whole. Nice attempt at an explanation, but you got it totally wrong.

English Mobster
January 30th, 2009, 03:04 AM
Ah, I had assumed maybe Islamic culture had different variants in different regions, I guess not. We jumped straight from the Middle East to British culture, and then to French, where we are at now.
