I've had this error before but I forgot how to fix it. Anyone else know? I just finished rigging a biped and exported the model with JMS Exporter v2 in 3ds Max 9.

I want to say there are a lot of vertices. Exceed means you probably went over the limit for the script. Thats what I want to say, someone care to help this fella out?

There's a option in the skin modifier that says max weights on vertex or something. Make sure its 2.

Hmm, I thought Halo 1 models only supported one weight per vertex. I'm looking at a jms file, and each vertex has a single weight.

I could have sworn it was 2 last time I rigged a model which was like a year ago so my memory is probably faulty.

You mean Bone Affect Limit? It is 2 and I made sure it was before I started.

Perhaps the mesh under the skin modifier was changed? If you edited the mesh, you'll need a new skin modifier.
SkinUtilities, from the Utilities Panel->More... button, will copy the bulk of the weights from the original (import or merge it) to the new

Could you explain a little bit more? I selected both objects, since there are two objects in the scene, and it created copies of both objects. I just don't understand what it did really.

I'm guessuming you imported a gbxmodel, and changed the topology of mesh (added or removed faces, edges, and/or verts), and possibly changed the node hierarchy, but haven't deleted the skin modifier which imported with the mesh.
The old skin modifier should be deleted, and a new one applied. If it's the same basic shape as the original, Skin Utilities might be helpfull in re-rigging it

you should look it up in max's reference. F1 opens help. In the Index tab, paste "skin utilities" into the text box and hit enter
