View Full Version : Model Regions, Permutations, and LODs

I went here first:

It doesn't load. So if anyone has some knowledge about how to name the jms files, please share.


The default warthog has 3 regions that I know of, but the snow warthog that I'm trying to remodel has 2 regions.

Regions: hull, tire
Permutations for hull: __base
Permutations for tire: __base, ~blur

Plus the normal 5 LODs.

I'm just interested in remodeling it a bit.

I don't want to lose anything while doing that, so I need to know how to do this correctly.

P.S. Does anyone know how to make a tank tread's animations?

haha, brings back memories..
if I had max I could show ya, but all you gotta do is select what faces you want to make a region, then you should see a blank text box in 3ds's toolbar
just put in the region name, and hit enter with the desired faces selected..

and btw, tank treads are an animated shader linked to a function in the vehicle tag...

Yeah, what KiLLa said... hard to explain it any other way. Took like forever before someone figured out what that textbox did.

Good to see someone is still interested in modding this game, heh.

The "barrels" region was un-needed, so the _base and ~blur for it are not there to

i think you can do "<lod> <permutation>.jms", though blur don't matter much below superhigh

The snowhog I remade almost everything for...that's if your refering to mine, I dunno if anyone else made one..but, I made new animations, new regions, new physics, ect..for mine..
So if your trying to use the regular hog anims with the snow hog, it won't work because the regions don't match..
I wish I had all my old files so I could be more ofa help, but I haven't touched max, guerilla, or sapien in YEARS XD

Yeah well the reason is because I have this "walrus" model of a warthog. the model inspired me to come up with an idea of making a snow-warthog that has 3 distinct characteristics

1.) the hood of the walrus model from this screenshot

2.) the treads and "doors" of the snow warthog

3.) the flying walrus from #1 has a "pelican engine", though it doesn't really look like one, underneath it. I like the idea, except I don't think that could make it fly. I think it would allow the warthog to "jump" like the tachinoma (or however it's spelled).

What do you guys think? If I do it, I'll need to know a lot about modeling first off.

You best go and learn to model before you start thinking of projects.
