no idea if any of you are really out into the job market yet, but as a worker in a place that has to cut 35% of its operating budget this year, it makes me fidgety...

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The final week of January began with a bloodbath for the job market, as more than 50,000 more cuts were announced on Monday alone.
At least six companies from manufacturing and service industries announced cost-cutting initiatives that included slashing thousands of jobs.
About 185,000 job cuts have been announced so far this year, according to company reports. Nearly 2.6 million jobs were lost over 2008, the highest yearly job-loss total since 1945.

Oh wow. Some of us with part times jobs with measly hours should still be thankful then... the worst part of it is when these people need the money to support themselves and their family.

Not sure if thats sarcasm or not.

Bleak news indeed. UK has the highest unemployment rate for like 30 years I believe. Its crazy. I think its reaching nearly 3 million people, in a population of 60 million, that number is terrifying.

I hate to say, and I know others hate to hear it, but good fucking job USA. You caused this mess, you better fix it asap.

Uhhh you dumb?

The US laid the seeds for economic recession/depression several years ago, before bush even. It's a shame Obama is going to have to fix up his predecessors mess too.

You shoulda deleted that one instead.

People need confidence in the economy, and that is really what the problem is now. That is whats going to take years to mend. Interest rates are at an all time low, people are saving say £100 a month on a morgage, they are going to see that money and be like "oh well, £100 a month, I'm going to save that just incase, as we dont know what is around the corner." And that is a problem, its sensible but not going to help us out in the long run.

We all like capitalism, however if we can't control ourselves in a capitalist state, we are the ones responsible for economic downturns.

Yeah, I believe the state of Georgia has lost from 150,000-300,000 jobs since the recession hit. IT's crazy.
