A Brazilian man wanted to collect his debt from a woman so he broke into her house and pulled a gun on her. It turns out that the gun was a toy gun Light Phaser made for SEGA video games. The man broke into a 60 year old woman’s house in Brazil’s Federal District. He then held her hostage for 10 hours. Eventually, he let her go unharmed after negotiating with the police. Kids, don’t get any ideas.

I want to say desperation has hit a new low, but I'm pretty sure we've seen worse.

You'd be suprised how much damage those things can do.
Then again, you would have to throw it at someone to do the damage, but you get my point. He was armed and dangerous. :D

Time to take my friend's [lastic BB replica gun, paint the orange tip black, and go on a rampage. Actually IIRC some messed up teen actually did this one time, he got shot and mortally wounded by the cops.
This article made my day, lol. LOL @ how the cops pulled out their Brazillian SWAT complete with riot shield to deal with the situation...

Yeah, it's funny how they thought someone's life was endangered when it actually wasn't!

To be fair, at that distance it probably looked like a real gun to police, and the hostages were probably to shocked by being taken hostage to actually notice that it was a fake gun. The response by the police was appropriate given the information they probably had. Same with the hostage too.

I'm so gonna gank two of those pistols from the Area 51-esque arcade games (y'know, there's one red and one blue one - Timo has a pic of them in his rotating sig somewhere) and rob a bank with 'em.
You'll see me in the news, and I'll probably be successful.

This is why educating people on the basics of firearms is a GOOD idea.
PROTIP: If you see a lens in the barrel, it's not a gun.

A lot of armed shit over here is done with replicas, actually. Probably why Airsoft's still illegal, while paintball isn't.
Not surprising the cops thought he was serious, some fancy comp pistols look a lot like that.

This reminds me of that video where the guy tried robbing a convenience store with a stick.
It wasn't even a big stick....

Reminds me of the guy who robbed a beer store and then after taking the money demanded the beer. Then the clerk told him he would need ID, and the guy gave it to him.
heh

He could have been shot over a toy gun.

Does that mean if I bust out duck hunt in my neighborhood and play it outside, I'll get sicked on by the popo? I think I'd lose a little bit of my sanity if I got arrested for it. xD
