Well i noticed the Toshiba Qosmio, (and i forgot to post this, didn't know i didn't)

and i was wondering,

9800M series is leaps ahead of the 9600M series, since it is actually capable of Crysis on High settings by itself, and better when paired up.

However, the Qosimo is really a terrible choice when it comes to laptops. The screens are hit or miss, they look ugly, and are outdated.

Toshiba is really not one of the better brands when it comes to laptops, since build-quality tends to be sceptical. The top names for performance laptops are MSI, ASUS, and Clevo (they build barebones and companies such as Sager retail the completed units).

Acer is also a possible choice, it's reliable and has bang-for-the-buck too. Don't go with Toshiba. Also you can now get Geforce 9800M cards in 15.4" laptops if you find 17" to be a bit too big for a laptop.

You can get a 15.4" Sager NP8662 with a GTX260M, which is slightly better than the previous 9800M GTX, for $1400. You can pay more if you want a Core 2 Quad in it as well. Battery life is roughly two hours though, but that's the sacrifice you make for performance.

That, I don't know. The Mobility 4850 is supposedly the equivalent to the 9800M GT, though I think it all depends on the game you are playing. It is capable of Crysis on High settings, according to reviews of MSI's GT725-074/075 found across various websites, including Newegg.

Oh yeah, now I remembered why I didn't buy that thing.

What thing? The MSI or the Qosimo? The MSI is actually a rather good machine, if you've ever used one in person. Just needs a 64-bit OS to reach its potential. Qosimos look cheap, feel cheap, and have a price-tag for a machine that is only worth 2/3 the amount at most.

I already answered the second question in the first sentence of my first post. Reread it.

As for the best the 9600M GT can do, I'd say any Source game on maximum settings, and Crysis on medium.

Really though, you should heed what the rest of us are saying in this thread...Toshiba is not the way to go for a laptop.

The 9600M GT is the mobile equivalent of the 8600gt/9500gt because if it's 32 stream processors and 128 bit memory interface. it's much better to get the 9800m gt at least.


Oh yeah you will need a mix of medium/low to play with acceptable framerates in crysis i you want 1280x1024 or above.

My Dad has a Toshiba laptop that keeps on chugging, but it's a low end Satellite that he uses for internet browsing. I also have heard that the more "expensive" Toshibas are not worth the price.
Also do NOT get an HP or Compaq laptop for the love of all that is holy, even if you see a "nice" one! I have made that mistake myself and as such I have a non-functional HP laptop (not even two years old) with a screwed motherboard that HP refuses to fix. I have only heard good things about Asus.

ASUS is on the list of high-end manufacturers. :)

I'd say they go in this order:

Clevo
ASUS
MSI
Acer (their best is a 9700M GT though)
Dell/Alienware (beware overpricedness)

HP, Toshiba, Samsung, Sony...they don't even make the list.

I think they are about equal, but ASUS has better insurance policies and MSI has better looks. The big coloured plastic areas on the ASUS books just don't do it for me.
