What game version is everyone playing on?

What would I have to do to be able to play with you guys?

The only reason I dont play CE right now is because I completely lost track of which game version everyone is playing on...

1.08 is your best bet if you want to be able to meet the most current people and mods.

Edit: IMO. :)

1.00 probably has the biggest user base, but they just play stock maps. Plus they are not the kind of people that you want to play CE with. They just generally take things too seriously.

1.07 shrunk right when 1.08 came out, but I bet there are still people and servers for it.

i played 1.00 usin the hacked strings, yeah ALOT of stock map servers, a few..FEW custom non dedicated servers.

and yes alot of them are more serious then 1.08 even though there are those who take the game too seriously (see the CE user "tricky")

Ive played a good bit of both recently. 1.00 players are generally kids who play occasionally or are of a Hispanic origin.

1.08 is regular players and pro fags and a couple of noobs mixed in. Generally said pro fags stay in there own servers though so I just ignore those.

I usually play 1.08, so maybe the 1.00 community has matured since I last ventured there, but I wish that some of the better 1.00 players would upgrade to 1.08 and start playing some GOOD custom maps.

There is outright no reason to be playing an outdated version of the game unless you pirated it.

I have a reason, to play with online with my friends who don -- right...

But I rarely play 1.00...only when there aren't many great servers populated in the 108 sector.

In all seriousness though, update your games to the latest versions - the designers intend them to be that way. Bug fixes and balance issues are implemented for a reason, not just to annoy those who abuse them.

Your best bet is to use version changer and check the servers on both 1.00 and 1.08. Whichever side you get better pings and better server choice you should play on.

the hacked strings are a way to travel back in time to play v1 and such.

Or I had just reinstalled the game and I didn't want to hassle with updating.

Even though after a game of 1.00 on Sidewinder, I decided that it was worth the hassle.

So it seems that I should use 1.08

How would I go about getting it?
Simply letting the game update itself?

supersniper
March 21st, 2009, 02:14 PM
... install the game and go to halomaps.org and downoad the 1.08 update.
Simple?

More players, didn't enable updates, illegally playing the game...

What hassle?

It takes all of 20 seconds to update the game...

What exactly do the halo patches fix. I can't see any real difference besides the server crash issues. That's it pretty much.

You don't need a disc with 1.08 either.

Too many people have never heard of Daemon Tools.

And yeah, there's nothing different aside from the server crash fixes in 1.08 as opposed to 1.04 (and 1.07).

Server crashes
No Disk
Server tampering
Messing with players in server to create unplayable conditions.

Lots of reasons to update to 1.08.

Ok, now I have a problem.

I have downloaded the patch, but when I try to run it, it says something like, "Halo is not installed on this computer. Halo must be running to install this patch."

I obviously have the game installed, but even when I run the game, it shows the same pop-up.

What am I doing wrong? Am I even supposed to run the program, or is just supposed to be in the Halo folder?

P.S. I already know this is a stupid noob question, sorry:embarrassed:

Worked for me, what are some popular maps nowadays?

sdavis117
March 22nd, 2009, 12:20 PM
Stock Maps and snow_grove seem popular. Yoyo Island and some other custom maps will sometimes get populated servers, but they aren't that popular anymore.

Is there a statistical list of the most popular maps?

sdavis117
March 22nd, 2009, 03:21 PM
You mean the one on Halomaps? I never trusted that one. It just always seemed inacurate. Plus all you need is one person to play your map and it's in the top 50.

The lists on Halomaps.org are the only lists i've run across. They're listed under the 'Extras' secton of the HCE section, but here they are for your clicking convenience: :D

Top 100 List -
http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?pg=67

Top 50 Year 2007 List -

Top 50 Year 2008 List -

---------------------------

As far as what version you should play.. I say use the version changer. 1.08ce gets pretty lonely sometimes.

Yes Kaishounashi beat me to it,

You guys halomaps is the best website for CE but the forums suck i don't know why people always bash it.

Maybe a torrent of really great maps?

No one plays them.

Go play something that doesn't suck like tf2 :|Sadly, this is so true. I've found some great maps out there and played them with a small circle of friends online back in the day, but those maps never got any real attention after their initial release - it all went right back to the noob maps and Yoyorast Island. At least I learned how to be a god on that map. I haven't even played HCE for 7 of the past 8 months, and I'm still ranked #2 on the Y.I.Paris server.

Heh.

If we could revive great maps like Chiller, Corrupted, Solitude, Majestic, Mudslide, No_Remorse (but a version that you can't nade jump out of, due to the balance issues), Paradise_Lost, Vendetta, etc., that would be awesome.

I can host a server with the all but people would really have to play an dpopulate it up. Last time I did htis everyone said they'd play but only a select few did. so it's back to normal maps. I can try custom again but you would have to promise you would play it.

Same here, I had an activethread about Lancers Edge being all custom maps 24/7, but it never saw more than 5 people at once when it was like that.

I don't fucking know why Gearbox didn't include some kind of map downloader for when you join servers... God that would have made Halo CE an epic game.

yeah, I've made several attempts to host a 'custom map day' too. never got more than 4-5 people either. gonna continue trying though, just gotta find a way to reach the average ce playerbase too =|

actually, what I'm wondering is why they didn't just delay halo pc until they could add custom map support on it from the beginning. the fact that they created two versions of the same game doesn't give players too much incentive to go and install ce (especially when the most popular maps on ce are stock maps anyhow). I know that during the early years of ce you guys all had an active community but I can't help but wonder what it'd be like now if only one version existed.-
