So, i host alot of Lan parties, Halo parties, etc. at my house.
(since there's alot of space)

and im sure alot of you host/attend them.

So, in here, post one of your favorite lan parties, post pictures, or tell what happened in Words.

My Lan Party:
So one i had was on december 31st, instead of spending new year's eve with my family, me and my friends all got together to have a giant gaming party.
Around 20 of my friends came, people brought 360's, ps3's, and laptops

we hooked up all the 360's so we managed to play 12 player infection matches on halo 3.
and all the laptops were hooked up together for half-life matches.
ps3's were just used for resistance and such.

There were a total of 4 360's brought, 5 laptops, 3 ps3's, 1 Wii, and a desktop without a moniter were brought
1 360, 2 ps3's, the only Wii, and the desktop with no moniter were not used out of the 14 gaming systems brought.

Here's a pic i managed to get after we were cleaning up... the people in the other room weren't however, plus they didn't realize that we quite the infection match.

Hosted a Halo 1/2 LAN as a Halo 2 release party with 16 people. We played Halo 1 until about 11:30, then walked to our Gamestop (which back then was down the street) to wait in line for Halo 2, then we picked up our copies and played that until we passed out.

Halo 1:
- CTF/Team Slayer on Blood Gulch/HEH, respectively.
- Red in one room and blue in the other.
- Red had a giant ass projector with 4 players and 2 relatively small TVs with 2 players per TV.
- Blue had 4 TVs with 2 players per TV.

Halo 2: Coop Campaign C-extravaganza
- Found another TV/Xbox to put the 8th team on.
- Race to see who could get the furthest through campaign on normal.
- Officially began at 1AM.
- Winning team finished at 9AM. We knew they won because one went "what a bullshit ending."

Yeah. Me and about 8 of my friends and their brothers got like 4 xbox's and set up a massive lan party for halo 2. It was kick ass. It was so much fun to get a double kill and here the guys in the other room calling bull shit.

ahh, good times.

yeah, i didn't get halo 2 til january 2005...
don't know why, but almost everyday, after the launch, i went to a friends house just to play... then we learned about skulls... then it gave us 5 hours more of enjoyment...

oh and here's a really fun mode we did on halo 3:

set up infection, with atleast 12 people, 2 people start out as zombies.

then select the map varient "toilet"

Fun as hell i tell you.

and for halo 2, set the weapons to no grenades, with plasma pistols only, and no shields.
sure gets annoying when everyone is meleeing... and then tension builds up.

I can't host any (house too small), but I attend them regularly:

Usually 8 or 9 people come. Everyone brings their own PC, no consoles. They are typically from around 5:00 to the next morning around 11:00, with a couple hours of sleep for some people.

Games

Medieval 2 Total War
GRID
Halo CE
CoD4
Crysis
Dawn of War
Battlefield 2
Age of Empires
Age of Mythology
CnC
Titan Quest

Snacks/Drinks

Chips
Bread
Pizza
Pop
Baileys
Coffee/Tea

Other Stuff

I might consider bringing my 360 if my bud brings his, so we can do some Halo 3. Trouble is, I need some adapter for the audio and I would need to bring speakers as well.

If you have your PC with you, you may as well get one of these for the monitor:
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360vgahdcable/
This also comes with a RCA->minijack adapter, so you can either bring a set of portable speakers or have it echo through the PC's output.

EDIT- http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Splitter-3-5Mm-Stereo-Female/dp/B0009JFF7K/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1239511112&sr=8-2
It's on sale for a penny, with 4.99 shipping. XD

Yeah... I've had a few.

I think we've done some Half-Life, (Usually Sven Coop) Halos 1 and 2, (with mods :)) CnC, (Classics only) Doom, and perhaps some I'm forgetting...

Never hosted or been to one. Closest I've done was bringing over my XBox to someone's house for Halo 2 System Link, and then him bringing his PC to my house for 1v1 Ut99.

I'd go to one if there were people I knew going, but not many of my IRL friends are into gaming much any more.

I went to Fragapalooza last year, does a 450+ person PC LAN party (aka "real" LAN party) count? Going again this year for sure, all you Canadian Modacity guys should come this year too, me and a buddy car pool up (I'm looking at you CAD).

It doesn't come with an RCA - Minijack adapter, I'm using one right now.

E: Nvm it does, mine was just still in it's plastic baggy still...

I'm in Game Club at my school and I'm usually in charge of setting up the Halo 3 or Computer equipment when we have school LANparties depending on who is there/in charge that year. PC gaming hasn't been very popular over the last year since all the freshman are useless console wannabees and are afraid of being pwned by the Seniors :P people don't want to bother bringing in their PC's. So we haven't had much of a turn out for that, but Halo 3 is always very popular.

Our attendance usually averages around 75 to 100 people out of a school of around 400 students.

We usually have 4 to 6 xbox 360's total, 2 dedicated to Halo 3, another two dedicated to COD4 or 5 and another two dedicated to something else (usually Guitar Hero or Rock Band). We also have a couple of PS3's (Whatever PS3 FPS is popular, although last LAN we had Street Fighter IV on two of the PS3's). Occasionally we'll have a Wii or a Gamecube for Super Smash Brothers or something else. We also have some modded Xbox 1's running DDR off in the corner (since our mats are broken or in really bad shape). Most of this stuff is supplied by Game Club members - I usually end up supplying my xbox and have to clean the pizza grease off the controllers when I get it back =/ .

Speaking of which, we usually go through a cubic mile of Pizza and soda by the time we're done. The only caffeine we usually have is Coke, Pepsi, Sprite and stuff like that...nothing serious sadly. Lots of other junk food as well - we usually end up making more money off the food then we do off the entrance fee.

Traditionally we'd have Counter Strike 1.6 tournaments but again, not many people want to bring their computers in. We're working on a solution to that though, lol.

I usually have LAN parties with friends who own high performance laptops (so do I) as we don't want to go to the trouble of transporting and setting up a monitor and big case and all those cables. (plus there's the issue of table space) Biggest LAN party I ever had was at my own home during Xmas break with four laptops and my desktop, all we played was COD4 and Left 4 Dead coop. Surprisingly, LAN multiplayer works better than I expected over wireless 54mbps 802.11g laptop connections.

As for consoles, I have yet to actually do a LAN with multiple consoles in one house because there's typically only one TV available at a time and I don't have those HDMI-to-DVI adapters to use a PC monitor. Still, split screen deathmatch never gets old, although in games like Halo, four players isn't that fun, you're just playing tag.

At school there's no "games club" (legionaire you're lucky!) and all the school PCs are shit, but from time to time I've secretly held LAN games with friends on Age of Empires 2 and CSv1.5 using flash drives in the computer lab.

Btw, south californians can check out http://www.thegamesquad.com/index.html.

e: I just remembered, this isn't exactly a LAN game but one time at lunch during school I had a Nintendo DS ad-hoc match with seven friends. Mario Kart and Metroid ftw :P

I've been to a few Halo and Halo 2 LAN parties, usually around 12 people. Swords&Shotguns Slayer on Gemini is one of my favorites!

I went to Ascendancy Gaming's Winter WonderLAN last december. It was in a cold as shit warehouse in san francisco in bad weather, but goddamn - best fun I've had in a long time, and the first time I'd pulled an all-nighter in years. They usually make a video of their Lans, but they're being lazy with putting it up this year. Will post when they do.

E: Oh, they did put it up. See if you can spot me :v:

Me and a buddy hosted a Halo tourni last year and made $200. we charged $15 sign up fee. 1st place took 25%, 2nd 15%, 3rd 10%, and pocketed the rest.

I go to a gaming shop (not really a cafae unless you count the pizza runs across the street) for all-nighters with mates every now and then.
Also done a few LAN's (only 8 people). Usually play CSS (:gonk:), tf2 (arena), WC3 (DOTA :phonegonk:) and DoW (i bring sexy mods to play).

I've been to two and then I moved into a complete booneys area. Wish there were still people who even knew how to host a LAN party. Both that I went to we played BF : 1942 and DesertCombat mod, and Starcraft. Fun shit. We weren't home till at least 3AM.

Well, at uni we had 2 full rooms (18 spaces on one, and I think 24 in the other one) playing Doom on lan. Obviously we had split up servers cuz of the cap, but still it felt like a big lan party :D

Part from that, havent really been to any lan partys, no idea why considering nearly everyone I know loves video games with a passion.

LAN parties are fun for testing out Vertigo City with cool friends. I'm also trying to make a co-op version of the Triple Treat Campaign and it'll support 8 players on LAN.

Sexy mods you say? Firestorm Over Kronus mb?

I have a LAN with my friends about once every two months, sometimes one in between as well. They run about 8 or 10 people, with 4 XBOX360s and about 6 PCs...so we've got two groups of games going...on PC it's usually Dawn of War, Unreal Tournament 3, Red Orchestra, Empre Earth, or Sins of a Solar Empire. On the 360s, there's Call of Duty 5, Gears of War 2, Rock Band 2, or Halo 3.

I took that to the last one ;)

I'll be bringing Inquisition: Daemon Hunt to the next one for sexy Imperium v Chaos shenanigans.
Or possibly the Tyranid mod (should DL that one of these days).

Couldn't you use the all races mod which combines all the mod races into one mod?

It's not just about races, the gameplay mechanics are altered too.

Like FoK, for instance, you have to select a military focus, and then you can only reinforce squads near Strategic points or production buildings. The weapon effectiveness against certain targets is also altered. Bolters no longer do damage at all to armour, and rockets now become effective against infantry (there is a serious glitch with the Mk. V Dreadnaughts with the SMs though, they are IMPOSSIBLE to kill...I don't know how or why, but I can't kill them with anything, no matter how large of a force I have).

ahahaha, last LAN party i was at, had about 9 people, all playing Total Annihilation with an updated AI. The game lasted about 4-5 hours. It was absolutely insane. It was up at my bros old apartment and we had burgers, hot dogs, and coke. good times.

Also Total Annihilation is probably one of the BEST multiplayer games ever. That is if you have the right distro...

Went down island to Campbell River on Wednesday. Had a LAN party with a friend and one of the friend's friends. We all drank tons of booze, got good and drunk, then played PS3 and PC games.

Notably we played Baja: Edge of Control, 18 Wheels of Steel (go ahead, laugh. We sure did), Rock Band 2, and Freelancer. Friend does not like Halo and friend's friend hasn't played it since HPC was brand new. Didn't want to divide everyone up.

Last good Halo LAN party I went to was at the school's computer lab. Halo Trial, 16 computers, and really bad intel graphics chipsets (everyone was grey, no shaders, but hilarious anyways).

too big to bother DL'ing.
And does it include all the race expansions/modifications from FoK? That's one of the things about that mod I really love (and the increased zoom distances).

I love you man...TA is one of the best games ever.

The biggest "LAN Party" I've ever had was like 6-7 people with 2 Xbox 360s at my house playing Halo 3. It wasn't the biggest thing ever, but it sure was a lot of fun. Oh, and I've also had a 4 person DoW "LAN Party" a few times as well.

lol yeah my friends and I tried playing Halo trial version at school once too, we got the same result (fixed function, shoffy gfx). CSv1.5 ftw.

The easiest "LAN party" to host involves portable game devices at school. Eight players Metroid and Mario Kart :P

Yeah... but even though the graphics were absolutely terrible, everyone had a blast. I think pretty graphics are less important when you get to a LAN party. As long as the graphics are functional enough for you to play the game with other people, you can have a fucking AWESOME time. No one's going to stand around nitpicking over missing pixel shaders when you can go own the guy sitting across the room with a flamethrower and then listen to him yell "IT BURNS! IT BURNS!"
