So i received my GameInformer Today, read an article of this game called
MAG (massive ass game???)

creators of socom are making this game that sets socom supposedly 15 years into the future

So all the players will be assigned in platoons that have certain missions which can lead to victory...

All this sounds amazing, and if you go to gameinformer.com
im sure they have some nice screenies....

Did i mention its 256 players???
yeah, sigh wonder how the game lobby works...

But one thing...

Only announced for the Ps3 so far... Damn...

(oh and Assassin's creed 2 Bitches!!!)
(OH and you don't play as altair...)

Ofcourse you wouldnt play as Altair. Its a completely different time period. I guarentee you play as his ancestor outside of the animus tho again. And the new guy has to be related to Altair in some way.

MAG=Massive Action Game

About time someone actually decided to do something like it, really.

Like a mini MMOFPS.

Kinda cool though, 256...

Is MAG only for the consoles, or what?

Yeah, seeing as it's spoiled for you right off the bat when you start the game.

Only for PS3. Makers of SOCOM? I wouldn't hold your breath if I were you. SOCOM: Confrontation flopped.

This has been discussed since before the PS3 even came out--I'm looking forward to it, but I don't have my breath held over it.

Massive Action Game involves squads of... was it eight players? Each given an objective so that in a 128vs128 game, there's still some organization. I haven't been paying too much attention to this one; I never got into SOCOM Confrontation and until I get some definite reviews and information that says MAG is decent, I probably won't pay attention to it very much either.

I'm still wondering how they'll be able to get 256 people connected to the same game without noticeable lag, though. I know the PS3 has a decent amount of horsepower under its sleek black shell, but I'm guessing the limiting factor here is the average PS3 user's internet connection. I'm sure that I'll lag all to heck if I get this game.

I'm thinking that they should start off with more realistic numbers for a console game. Something along the lines of 64 players in all, but still tailor it for larger scale battles.

I believe Resistance 2 already supports 60 players in competitive online battles, so 64 isn't much of a stretch. I suspect the reason why these developers decided on 256 is because they wanted to get people to sit up and notice. If it works...

Which was what I was thinking. I don't play Resistance 2. Do people regularly fill up 60-player servers/games?

Fairly regularly, yeah. Though, I don't play the competitive mode nearly as often as the co-op mode, but it seems to me that I can log into it at any time of day and find a nearly full game to join.

As for MAG... if it's decent enough, I'm sure it'll fill servers. My doubts are not whether they can fill a game, but whether they can make a full game run smoothly.

yeah, the game informer read that the search system will go through a narrow pipe, enabling you to find matches quickly...
