Wouldn't know.
I suck at driving in regular races, but I'm starting to get the hang of drifting...sorta

One of the best racing games i've ever played. For once, you can actually move the other race cars instead of being able to send you flying because you're in their race line.

does anyone have any tips or help. I totally suck at the game. I have like, zero control over turning. A single nudge will send me flying into a wall.
For drifting, do you turn away from the pole, then e-brake, then throttle, or what. Most of my drifts were just solid e-brake and spins.

For drifting I just slam on the brakes before the corner and then accelerate while turning hard into the corner and out of, never use the e-brake. It takes a while to get the hang of, and using arrow keys instead of a controller sucks but once you get used to it, it's pretty awesome.

Should I invest in a wheel?
And Isn't e-brake the way you're supposed to do it?

BP is way more fun than a run of the mill closed track racing game like GRID... I'm sure there may be some games out there better than BP for racing, bit I'm not a racing game kinda person. I think the only ones I've played since Grand Tursmo 1 (sp?) are GRID and BP.
So yea.

If you have the money to then why not? Yeah it's the way they say to do it but I can get 6 million combos on the savage difficulty which easily devastates everyone so I don't really mind ;).

I've never actually played GRID, but if it's anything like DiRT, then I probably won't like it. Right now, I'm actually pretty hyped for Codemasters next racing game, Fuel. For those who haven't heard anything about it, it's basically an open-world racing game, and by open world I mean 100,000 miles open-world. Supposably it takes four hours to get from one side of the world to the other. Damn, I guess i'll be pulling an all nighter just be able to get a feel for the whole world.

Grid is an amazing racing game, and a great racing simulator. I have it for 360 and I love it. Great graphics, and the best close bumper to bumper without crashing racing. If you think this game is worse than Burnout games, then you either shouldn't be playing racing games, or get checked out by a doctor for a brain dysfunction. The only bad thing about it is the drifting, it's about the worst part of the game. You have to know what you're doing to drift correctly in that game, or have a steering wheel with a shifter.

I've played both Grid and Burnout demo's, and the actual racing side of things Grid was alot more fun. I felt like I was racing for a reason, rather than just "to get to an end point within time limit" like burnout has alot.
Wish should I buy, Burnout Paradise or Grid?

If you're a hardcore Burnout fan, get it. But if you like racing simulators, get Grid.

I love the full version of Grid. It's pretty awesome after you get your first car. Still don't get the drifting too much, and whenever I drift, its usually for a db, where place in the race doesn't matter as much.

So, can you customise cars at all? I've heard you can change the performance, but can you change colours and maybe body work at all?
I'm thinking of getting this when my loan money comes in, which is in a few days.

Well, I don't know if you can customize the car itself, but you can definitely change the color and design scheme to a degree.

Still a matter of opinion, though Forza wins 'cause GT5 ain't out yet. And won't be probably for another year.
As for GRID, I played the demo online with a buddy (PS3s) and we had a blast. Unfortunately, the game didn't draw me in enough that I felt like buying it. I did end up buying Burnout: Paradise and I've enjoyed that thoroughly.

Well..
Forza Motorsport 2 - £17.91 / $26.06
GRID - £16.81 / $24.46
Burnout Paradise - £17.99 / $26.19
Forza is more simulation, sure theres more cars but meh does it have variety?
I'm edging close to GRID, and maybe buying Forza 2 also.
Edit, Well just ordered GRID, should be here in a few days.

Forza has much better physics than GT4, and there are more ways to customize your car (performance, handling, graphics/designs/paint, etc.) And Forza 3 is supposed to come out in 2009.

Forza is a nice simulation, but unless you're amazing at it it isn't that fun. Grid is much easier to drive than Forza is. The only thing Grid lacks is the carlist, which isn't that big of a deal, because the cars in it are good enough. If you have to, you can download the 8-ball pack for it, which comes with more cars. Like the new Mitsubishi Lancer :p

Forza's skill curve is pretty much going straight in the horizontal direction first, but then it starts to go steep vertical. Once you get the basic feel for the cars it's pretty easy, but to get better takes a while. Racing on campaign is extremely easy, that is if you put the difficulty on easy. You can go through the whole campaign on easy, and up the difficulty if you're good enough. Forza is only hard if you want it to be. And for the most part, all people do on multiplayer is drift. Forza 3 will have more game modes for multiplayer though, so that will be fixed.

Meh, Forza 2 was bundled with my xbox, but I played it maybe 3 times. I just could not get the hang of handling the car, and gave up. But if what you say is true, then maybe I'll get better eventually. Maybe If I get bored I'll play it again. I'm not the biggest racing game fan though anyways.

Not like that's a viable means of racing. You only have a car as good as your budget goes, speeding is illegal on public roads, and it costs a lot of money to use a track. (Unless you're some incredibly rich person who buys all the cars he wants and rents out tracks for days at a time.)

Getting GRID this Friday, as well as getting a new Logitech Steering wheel delivered on Thursday. Looking forward to it, i suck at driving games so, should be fun, maybe i can get better at it if i have a wheel.
Anyway, really loved the demo I'll keep the discussion going once I've played the full game next week.

Forza has much better physics than GT4
I am not disagreeing with you in any way whatsoever on that statement. However, no one specifically talked about GT4, did they?
As far as racing sims go, though... I haven't played a huge amount of either GT or Forza. I've played a bunch of Live For Speed, though. It edges more towards sim than arcade.
GRID is one of those games that has a decent amount of sim in it but not so much that only hardcore professional driving/racing fans can get into it which is nice.
Burnout is very arcadey so that anyone that can hold a controller can play it. But it's still awesome, and yet... it's that arcadey that you wonder if it belongs in a GRID thread.
As for driving a car really fast... no. My current vehicle is a freakin' Astro van with ignition problems. Sure, I can get it over 100mph, but that's illegal. And expensive.
Limited
April 21st, 2009, 03:08 PM
Well, considering real life driving is only fun due to acceleration, going 120mph is fun yes, but its the accelleration that is the best.
In a game, you don't feel the acceleration one bit, therefore the only kicks are going REALLY fast like a manic.
Plus Xet's post is 100% correct, its just not feasible.
Anyways, I'm pretty sure I'll love GRID, played the demo and loved it, minus the sucky drifting. I know I'm bloody drifting yet the game ceases to acknowledge it alot which blows.
By the way Firedragon, where you getting GRID from? I ordered mine from Asda (ya I know boo) but it was the cheapest place :)
I might buy a 2nd hand copy of Forza 2 if I get bored with GRID.

The only reason I can play Forza 2 is because i've played 1 and Project Gotham Racing (which, funny, no one suggested for another game). They're actually very alike, but Project Gotham focuses more on European and other cars, more than Grid, which focuses more on US and Japanese cars. So, what i'm saying is, when you get bored of Grid, pick up a copy of Forza 2 and PGR, because those are some good simulators.

Well considering GT5 isn't even out as a full game yet I'd figure I'd just use the newest game after that as the example. The other games in the GT series really don't even compare at all.
So, what i'm saying is, when you get bored of Grid, pick up a copy of Forza 2 and PGR, because those are some good simulators.
Forza (2) and PGR (4) are about the same in the way the cars handle. They both have a fairly large selection of cars and some are different, but Forza mainly focuses on real race tracks, and PGR is race tracks that are based in cities. In Forza (2) you can also upgrade/tune your cars and do all sorts of things with the graphics and paint.

I wish I could hook up my old Nintendo64 Wheel attachment to my PC or xbox, since I'm too cheap/poor to buy a new one. Then I might play some racing games. Its got a shifter and pedals, its pretty sweet.
