Anyone remember Lightning? Our favorite H2CE and Metroid Online skinner dude who started working on like 5 badass maps and has yet to release one despite the beta testing that was done (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6YfUB45RKs)?
The guy who almost got me to tie a DDR cabinet to the top of my car to drive it to him two states over?
Well, truth be told, one of the maps not going gold is my fault. Lights was having issues portalling the level correctly, meaning that the whole damn level was rendering at any given time. I thought I had a grasp on how to portal stuff, so I offered to do it for him. He let me do it.
This was about a year ago.
I started on it, and I can see why he just kinda gave up on it. I was trying for too long to try and figure out why it would pick two or so portals at random and tell me that they didn't define two sealed areas, and it drove me nuts. Plus, it turns out I never actually remembered how to portal correctly; I read the stock tutorial wrong and had been implementing them the wrong way.
Tonight, I finally got it set. The level culls beautifully and, with no objects on the map whatsoever, runs smoothly on my machine. Now I'm waiting for him to fix up any bad textures and put finishing touches on level geometry.
Soon, people, Lightning will release a map. :eek:

re:vid link in 1st post, platforms: might be able to synch them platforms better by dropping a vehicle, if the vehicle falls far enough to synch position and velocity before squish/volume test. Just a theory. Perhaps also additional collision layers within the lift with a water material who's splash effect pushes the player back up. Water or w/e

Yeah the fixes were easy, but you forget this is one of Lightning's maps, mmk? Even the smallest thing could potentially halt production for about two years. XD
The sbsp is compiled, need to get any and all assets I'm missing to compile the scenario into a map now. Playtesting whenever the hell Lightning is around and willing.

I HAVE A BETA BUILD OF THE MAP CURRENTLY IN-GAME AND RUNNING, 100% POPULATED.
Took me hours, but I fixed the scenario tag to use lightning's old population layout. Only issues I have is that the player starts unarmed and the light bridge/controls are missing in-game... wierd.
Playtest date and time to follow soon.

The unarmed thing is either a biped in the globals is not referencing mp_cyborg.biped or the starting equipment in the scenario is not referencing valid weapons.

"Portalling" is the process of defining sections or "clusters" of a sbsp. The engine uses portals and clusters for culling (knowing what not to render based on what the camera can see), and to define borders for weather, sound environments, and ambient sound, thus defining what is considered indoor and what is outdoor in a map with such an environment.
Lack of proper portalling is my biggest pet peeve of Halo CE maps, but I wonder why I get so worked up about it since most people (myself included) don't know how to do it "correctly" in any scenario (the HEK tutorial only gives a basic example), and Tool loves to tell you you're doing it wrong even though you're damn sure you got it right.

So, uhh, been working on things, have some images if anyone still cares.

Basically, the layout before had two of the "ring" rooms (two levels, glass floor inbetween them, wrapped around a large central pillar) and I wanted to make an addition that allowed players to get to the upper level from them. This is the result, and has not been fully detailed yet properly.
Players can go up the ramp and wrap around the 'plasma tower crap thing' to get to the upper level. Enterint the upper level can either have you drop down to the lower (for avoidance of people chasing or to sneak up on people, whatever), or continue to the left to enter the secondary path into the bases. Glass is breakable so you can shoot through the central plasma chamber, and also through the glass in the upper level's lookout, so you can jump on people and get them, or just quickly drop down and shit
if that doesn't make sense, I will draw things
detailing and lighting these sections now, oh god it's 6AM why am I doing this.

E2: damn, also, times have freaking changed. running radiosity 1 to 0.0000001 took about 4 hours. That used to take 2 days.... on 0. It takes like 5 minutes to do 0 0.0009

Lightning's alive! Looking cool so far, I like how the glass is destroyable in the middle for when people are crossing. I always love when you can use booby traps in vidya games.

That's a topdown. The hallways branching from the middle room on the top are the new ones that are replacing the ones on the opposite side on the bottom as well, I'm just detailing the top one first so I can just mirror it.
