It's not great but I think if someone who's a good animator did something like this it would be awesome.

Doesn't look so bad, reminds me of Far Cry 2's Barret reload, except using the right hand instead of the left. I have terrible creativity, so many if I'm bored I'll try this, but chances are I won't. Looks cool though, try to add an ophandle pull maybe.

The entire point of using your off-hand to reload is so that you still have trigger control tbh... That's a pretty stupid way to reload.

Every sniper reload animation looks exactly the same in Halo 1 2 3 and in most Halo CE maps. I thought I'd try something different.

The entire point of using your off-hand to reload is so that you still have trigger control tbh... That's a pretty stupid way to reload.
Actually, it's a pretty bloody smart way of reloading a rifle which probably weighs somewhere in the region of 20-30lbs. without the mag falling out from not being seated properly.
Why the hell would you need 'trigger control' while reloading anyway? You're not likely to be firing thin air, are you? And let's not forget that this is a 14.5mm anti-materiel rifle, not a 5.56 NATO infantry rifle... do you honestly want your finger anywhere near the trigger while reloading that?

Yeah I had some problems with the link constraint. I pretty much have no clue how to use it properly. I fucked up the constraint on the clip real bad while animating so I couldn't get it to go back to the original place on the rifle while he was putting the mag in. Thus me getting annoyed and having the mag "teleport" to the correct position while he moved his hand back to the trigger and the gun was partially below the view point.
This isn't going in game anyways so it doesn't matter. I just had a creative spark and wanted to try it.

No, I was referring to the actual magazine seating properly in the rifle so it doesn't fall out of its own accord, not the animation itself. I'd like to see a perfected version of that animation ingame, it suits the rifle.

Seems to me that reloading a sniper rifle with the trigger hand could help you keep your barrel level, so you don't have to completely reposition the gun when you get ready to aim again.

It's a SPARTAN carrying it.
I don't know where you're from, but up here they define "trigger control" as controlling what's happening with the trigger. That includes NOT firing it accidentally while reloading, which could happen if you don't have a hand near the trigger to prevent things from snagging/pushing/firing the trigger. I was also talking about controlling the firing of the rifle while reloading.

To fire a gun you have to pull the trigger. whether or not your hand is on the handle makes no difference. What matters is if your finger is resting on the trigger. You can pull your finger off the trigger without moving your hand. That works perfectly as trigger control. What really matters here is how you support the gun. for a sniper rifle, I might hold it with my support hand. However, for this particular sniper rifle, with the bolt on the left, it would be a pain in the ass to animate it with him switching hands. Unless your a lazy guy and don't do a bolt push.

And you're telling me that the only object that can move the trigger to fire it is your own hand? If you're in the bush there are a ton of things that could snag in the trigger guard and fire the weapon if you don't have a hand near it to ward off such things.
Either way, you guys are just pussy's, I reload .50 Nitro Express rifles while holding them vertical with one arm. /trollin

Guy. We are talking about animations. In animations you cannot possibly account for all possible situations. And the spartan's strength excuse can only serve to worsen animation quality. I've fucked around with this concept tons of times, and it never looks good if you account for a spartan's abnormal strength.

Hey guys, I think it's perfect, because after all, it's a fucking reload animation for a fucking video game and all that matters are aesthetics. Jesus Christ you guys can argue over anything. I wasn't aware that physics and simulated free will of the character would have to be taken into account when placing frames ffs.

Anyway, it's irrelevant what he is. The Spartans weren't always superhuman, remember? And that's when they would've learned their weapons drill. And they would've learned the same weapons drill as anyone else, because no matter what you are, you learn basic weapons drill just the same. It becomes habit, you of all people should know that.

Thread seams like it was dragged from a typical halomaps thread.
FlamingRain's animation looks nice, and so does yours. But the 3rd person one seems off as the stock moves around alot, wouldnt it be rested in the characters shoulder.

That actually looks good in the fp veiw, I like it.
I kind-of assumed the mag that gets put in was the same one as gets taken out in halo animations, but actually seeing the way it flies back into his hand from that second angle was rather funny.
EDIT: The point somebody made about having to switch hands to pull the bolt back makes sense though, maybe the model should be edited so the bolt is on the right-hand side so he can pull it back with his right hand.

The mag does not necessarily have to come back in the same way it came out, before. All it is an arm controller linked to the magazine node or vice versa.
