So not so long ago, I started having problems when recording in Halo.
I use to get 60 frames locked while recording, but now it jumps all the way down to 5 and sometimes if im lucky 30. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 4850
My settings in Halo:
Res: 1980x1080
Vysnc on
Decals on
60hz
Everything on high (particles, textures etc)
Also, my settings have always been this even when I didn't have this problem

Help would be much appreciated :)

Recently installed a new driver? have you tried removing halo and reinstalling it?

When my free Hard Drive space was under 1gb, I started getting the same problem. Try checking that.

I haven't tried reinstalling Halo yet, and I don't think I've installed any new drivers. Should I check for new drivers or no?

you might do that, but try to record with the decals off. When I put decals on my fps goes down to 20-25 with dropts to 10 or so.

When Im just playing, its locked at 60 fps
E: and no, I tried it with no progrmas running but halo right after a boot up and it still did it, unless there's something running at start up thats causing this?

at what resolution are you recording, maybe your hard drive can't keep up with the amount of video data fraps is putting out.

Nope, I tired changing the resolution all the way down to 1280x800 and it still did it, with maybe a 3 fps difference

Vsync? Turn that off when you plan to record. Defrag the hard drive as well, even if the defrag app says you don't need to. Also, that system could record 1920x1080 at full resolution and keep 60 fps? I find that hard to believe unless they they changed the codec again...

Also try different versions of Fraps if you can. That helped me a lot.

Idk, but it did. I'll try what you said, and Lateski.
Also Lateski didn't you have this problem before?

if your hard drive space is under 1 gig, then you really shouldnt be running fraps at all... i wonder what happens when a hard drive becomes 100% full. must be hell to clean it out

I've filled the 200GB partition I made for FRAPS almost every time I made a CE league video, and all you see is windows warning you that your drive is full :-3

Have you tried the in game xfire video recording... personally I think it's better than fraps but i still tend to use fraps. Try that out and see if it also drops there. If it does then it might be either driver issue or settings issue if it doesn't then it's a fraps issue.

I was playing Touhou and noticed I still had fraps up. I started recording and as soon as the game started it went from 60fps to 5. I'm gonna try another version of fraps, I'm thinking that's my problem now.

Umm, I have a special version of fraps that doesn't lock your fps. It will record naturally at whatever frames you get whilst playing. It works great for me! I never used to record cause of frame lag and fps dropping. If you already have this version, then I have no other advice to give other than what others have already said. :)

Let me know if you would like it!

Yeah Higuy I had the same problem before and it still occurs sometimes but just because of filling up HDD.

I would help you and send you every version of Fraps I have so you could test which one works but I'm home in 2 weeks >.<
