Nah, why spend more than I have to. I was exaggerating with the rich thing but I have plenty of money from selling. I have enough.

Why hasn't asked this question yet?: Why not an ATi card?

Get an HD 4650

Maybe he doesn't like his ATI card / drivers.

Are the computer specs in your profile correct? Pentium D? You really need to upgrade off that thing whenever possible. A high end card like the GTX 260 is major overkill and would still suffer big framerate dips because of the CPU. :-3
Something more "midrange" like the 9600GT or 9800GT would yeild impressive results and cost under 100 dollars.

You could use another gig of ram as well.

Why an HD4650? I'd recommend something more like an HD4870 or something. But yeah, why do you want the card to be specifically Nvidia?

This. Get yourself a cheap Core 2 Quad and a decent midrange Nvidia card (I'd keep an eye on ATI as well, but whatever) and you'll be fine.

Because Linux support with ATi is shit. Cards from nVidia, on the other hand, work very, very well.

I know, I know, and I know.
I dont understand most of that, but I do know my computer is close to shit.

So could you give me a quick rundown of what you would buy on a moderate budget to fix this up? Keep it simple considering that I am gonna use the rest of that money to buy a few girls some gifts on a little personal holiday.

This is probably the only reason I am not wanting an ATI card.

Are you using some HP or dell or something from a major vendor?

Heathen
April 25th, 2009, 12:32 PM
Dell, also, I am going to post this here so I can remember it and so you guys can tell me what you think.

Yeah, that's an awesome deal for the price. i say go for it.

As for a different card for the budget, the Geforce 250 is just right for the price and performance that I'm absolutely positive you're looking for.

Which model are you using? Some dell cases aren't compatible with regular ATX PSUs.

xps 400 I think.

April 25th, 2009, 06:39 PM
Hmm, it looks a lot like my Dimension E520, I don't know if there is enough space for a big card like GTX 260. Try going into the case and measure how much you space there is.

Ati linux support is bad?
Thats odd, on ubuntu 8.10, I got higher framerates in the Cube2 engine than I did on windows, in a clean installation.

Amit
April 26th, 2009, 12:36 PM
I don't understand, I used Ubuntu for 3 months with my ATi Card and there was nothing wrong with it.

Heathen
April 26th, 2009, 03:03 PM
tis the x300's
they are iffy.

Warsaw
April 26th, 2009, 05:22 PM
And it's not that there's always something specifically wrong, it's just that hardware support isn't as good in some apps with ATi.
