I can't seem to get on AIM; it either disconnects after a while or throws error code 54 (service unavailable) at me. At first I thought it was just my computer's setup, but I'm also getting 54'd on my cell phone's mobile IM app.

Wtf?

e: I'll also note that a couple people I've talked to who use Trillian or MSN say that they're still connected to AIM.

I was having trouble as well today. Within about an hour it was back up and running... probably you just have to wait a bit.

A bunch of my friends lost the connection and got 54'd too. I think it was a temporary problem.

Well, I'm back on for now...

Anyone know why AIM's been shaky lately? Seems like the past week I've been getting this craep.

Bamp.

AIM started wigging out again at noon, just like yesterday.

What the fuck is going on?

Back online as of 2:00.

I'm annoyed at the fact that it's going out at times when I need to use it.

AIM IS LAIM.

Thread complete.

I haven't been having any issues whatsoever as of late; I'm using Trillian though, so maybe that has something to do with some of the issues (doubt it since it was having trouble on your phone).

Next time this happens, I'm gonna try installing the official AIM client (ugh bloatware) and see if that connects, just to see if the AIM service is trying to reject third-party clients or something.

That or get a dummy screen name and see if it's AIM suddenly hating my screen name or some craep.

Most of the shitware can be avoided while installing. Just custom install, and uncheck everything. Also, the bs plugins at the bottom can be uninstalled pretty quickly too. hth
