View Full Version : Trying out Hijacking

I wanted to try out hijacking, because after watching CMT, Zteam, and H3MT, I now feel that I to must try it :D
To start I need to ask the following questions.
1. When animating the boarding, does the biped have to be on the scene as well as the vehicle?
2. If 1 is correct, then how would you seperate them for biped/vehicle animations?
3. If 1 is wrong, then what is only on the scene?
I would also like to know what the script is for hijacks, which includes the animation for boarding.
Thank you.

Why don't you try figuring it out rather than having us spoon feed you the information of how to do it?

You could at least help him a little bit.

I wasnt asking for stuff like that, I merely wanted guidance. Before I animated I wanted to make sure that I had things right before I did it, because I just started animating. I also asked because I didnt want Halo to say "Your doing it wrong" and have no idea how to fix it.
Sorry if it sounded like I was being spoiled.

The animations are the same as any other vehicle enter/exit/idle animation. It really depends on how you set it up.

Mine's just the boarding enter as an enter animation, then the actual boarding is an idle animation. The script sleeps for an appropriate amount of time to only allow the animation to be played once. There are better ways of doing it, this was just a 10 minute job i cooked up to show some kiddies it can be done.

I should make a note that I havent actually animated vehicles yet, I only have done some FP models, as well as Device_machine animations (very basic)
The only thing I need to know: Do the biped AND the vehicle itself need to be on the same scene in 3ds Max to animate?

No, it just makes it easier when their both in the scene.

If thats the case, when it comes to exporting, which one needs the animation, the vehicle or the biped?
Also, thanks Choking, for helping me with this :D

The biped. You can keep your vehicle's mesh in the scene while you animate/export, so long as you don't have any of the vehicles nodes in the same scene when you export the final animation sequence.

Also when animating the #driver marker is the center of the animation. So line things up accordingly.

Just so you know, I was mainly referring to you asking about how to do the script. I did not know that you had no previous experience with vehicle animations, and that is what your main focus was about. Sorry about that.

After trying to animated it, I figured that I am not ready for making hijack animations yet.
Thanks to all who helped in in this thread :)
Edit: I am going to try again to do it.

Lol, I colossally suck at 3p anims. I once attempted to animate CMT's Jackal for Lag when he was on vacation.
RaduMachedon (5:36:28 PM):oh god damn you
RaduMachedon (5:36:39 PM):you imported the jackal with all nodes as bones
RaduMachedon (5:36:47 PM):now the node structure got all screwed up
RaduMachedon (5:37:12 PM):MY JACKALS ARE UPSIDE DOWN WITH SIDEWAYS LEGS INGAME
RaduMachedon (5:37:19 PM):WHENT HEY RUN IT LOOKS LIKE THEY'RE TRYING TO SWIM
And the first vehicle anim I tried to make was the chief's pelican exit anim. That was a pain in the ass.
Yeah alot of people dont get good 3p on their first try.
