Damn, looks like it could of been a really cool game. Sad to know that this may never see the light of day now with 3D Realms being shut down.

As always, post your thoughts and comments and shit.

I'm convinced that the guys from 3D realms will form a new Dev Team and that they will finish this game.

This is one of the most anticipated games EVER. I can't imagine that this won't be finished.

Take Two owns the rights. It's up to them to finish it.

They could do what Monolith did with FEAR 2. They lost the rights to the name FEAR after their first game, so instead they decided to make a game in the same universe, just without the name FEAR in it.

They eventually got the FEAR name back, though I forget how.

Yeah, crazy shit went down and they managed to regain rights. Well FEAR 2 is a full out sequel that still takes into account the same shit as FEAR 1/Extraction Point/Perseus Mandate since it's all happening at the same time after the city is destroyed.

actually
they merged the two sequel products that were going on (FEAR 2 and Project Origin) and ignored extraction point and perseus mandate

nothing really special. Just another FPS (albeit well polished from what I've seen in the footage), looks like it brings nothing really new to the equation.

I never played Perseus Mandate so I'm not sure what went down there but I know extraction point had the Pointman pick up where his first set of adventures left off.

Dude... what the hell? Suddenly you're a game crit?

I think it looks awesome. I've always loved Duke Nukem. Can't say I've played through... but from what I've grown up with/played, I've loved it all. Looks great, I think it's going to be a crap load of fun...

When you work on a game for 13 years, all your "new" ideas get stolen by other companies :3

Thanks for being fans and for all your support.
Edit: We've had numerous people inquire as to who is in the photo, so to that, here's a list of who is who in the photo:
SITTING/KNEELING L-R: Chris Cummings, Randy Forsyth, David Riegel, Pat Jones, Pete Knepley, Jay Brushwood, Dave Ratti, George Broussard, Allen Blum, Chris DeSimone, Brian Hook (pink tie), Quinn DelHoyo (GDC shirt), Scott MacLean, Rob "MacGuvyer" Faison, Andrew "Sonic" Kerschner, Bryan Turner, Steve Blackburn, Kaiser the dog.
STANDING L-R: Brian Lawson, John Pollard, James Houska, Andrew Baker, Eric Von Rothkirch, Chris Skelton, Mark Skelton, Gary Buchanan, Kevin Green, Joe Siegler, Rick Huenick, Chris Smith, Ben "Too Happy" Eoff, Trammell "T-ray" Isaac, David Carter, Bryan Brewer, Layne Johnson, Brad Jacobs, John Anderson.
Yeah... they're pretty much done for...

Which I mean... sucks a lot... I think the new Duke Nukem would have been fantastic. I would have gotten it...

GENTLEMEN.

We may well be amidst a clever viral marketing campaign.

Anyone who knows me on this site knows I'm one of the most unconspiratorial Redditors left on the site. None the less, check this out (http://whois.domaintools.com/savedukenukem.com).
The domain was registered on 5/7/09, the very same day that 3DRealms announced it was closing. Furthermore, if I recall, that news did not break to the internet at large until very late in the day - sometime in the evening. I haven't registered many domains in my time, but in my experience, it takes at least a few hours to process, up to around 24 hours.
And look at the flow of "leaked" videos and pictures that have been absolutely STREAMING out of 3DRealms in the last four days. There's been more Duke Nukem activity since Duke died than in the last several years of development. And the forums have been filled with people looking at said material and lamenting Duke's doom.
Apparently, we're supposed to believe that 3DRealms has been sitting on all this kickass footage that could have been used to generate HUGE amounts of buzz... and yet did absolutely nothing with it, even as their company was falling apart from beneath them, just a few months after announcing (again) that DNF was about to be released.
Now, this guy (http://www.jeffshenk.com/) (note it's the same e-mail addy) is really small potatoes, at least based on his site, which is the only real flaw in this theory. You'd think 3DRealms would hire someone bigger, unless they were desperate. But everything else fits like a damn glove.
Never the less, you tell me, which scenario sounds more likely: A)3DRealms is staffed by a bunch of idiots who neglected to make use of all kinds of PR material lying around and instead let their company crumble, and in the meantime, this Jeff Shenk guy is SO goddamn smart that the very instant he heard the first rumor that 3DRealms was closing, he went off and registered SaveDukeNukem.com just in case. And put up a "stay tuned..." message just for the hell of it...
Or B)This was all a gigantic P.R. stunt to manipulate the players and the fans with a fake "closure," release tons of footage to restore goodwill, and then to create a fake grassroots "Save Duke!" campaign... all organized by the ad men with the goal of fucking with the heads of you and me.
I think it seems pretty obvious which one is more likely.
Edit: OH LOOKEE HERE (http://whois.domaintools.com/saveduke.com). Saveduke.com registered by an anonymous proxy the DAY BEFORE 3DRealms' closure was announced. There's nothing at the site yet, but come on... There is absolutely no good explanation for this that doesn't involve asshattery.
Not unless someone can think of some other Duke who also needed to be saved starting a few days ago.

After this posting, someone else noticed this:

This all reeks of sneakiness.

I would think it's highly unlikely... I mean... with all of this stuff leaked... and the lack of funding... seems a little over the top for it all to be a trick.

Leaked doesn't mean shit on the internet, anybody can "leak" a video.

I'll be pissed if it's a marketing campaign (like they need it), but it's still better then no DNF at all.

By leak I meant that they were releasing all this content. That demo real was supposedly one of the animators making a demo real for his own benefit, he had to wait a week to be able to release it... so I'm pretty sure they just don't care anymore.
