View Full Version : BSP isn't rendering the ground?

Yeah, so something is up with my BSP... it won't show the ground close to me, except for a distant sliver of visible ground occasionally.
Here's a picture, so you get what I mean:

That tiny sliver in the distance is what happens normally; I usually can only see that much on any of the terrain, or none at all.
Can anyone tell me what I could do to fix this? I tried portalling hoping it would fix it, but nothing has changed with it. Also, when I run tool and create lightmaps, the BSP tag doesn't appear to be making a lightmap.

did you update the structure bsp and not run radiosity?

I ran radiosity in tool after I updated my Structure BSP, but it won't stop doing this.

I'm hoping that apart from that sliver, you didn't make the material of the rest +sky?

hah, no way. That sliver becomes invisible if you get closer to it and the same phenomenon happens in other parts of the map at about the same distance in terms of how far away you are.

Is the silver part, part of the BSP? Like the egde of a hill? The BSP could be inside out or something. Or you may be spawning under the bsp. Random thoughts.

Try flipping your normals, looks to me like you've got them facing the wrong direction.

I'm pretty sure the normals aren't flipped, but I'll try making the textures double sided. Maybe it will show up then...

Is this before, or after you attempted terrian portals?
Looks to me like a portaling issue..it's culling the entire bsp..
Either that, or your under the map..it wouldn't follow the sealed world rules, if they were back-facing.

it might be the portals. I'm not sure though, because it did this even before I had portalling done to it.

Well, I'd run radiosity in sapien, just to be sure that it isn't a lightmap issue..
I'm sure this is far from a final version, so just do a quick radiosity, and see if anything apears in sapien?
Have you ever seen the BSP? Does it show in sapien?
If you have seen it, what did you change since then?

Occasionally tool randomly flips all my normals when I export, even though it's fine in 3ds. Try flipping them to the reverse of what it should be.
