Test's have been up to only 6 players. Gamplay plays great. (Extremley fun on koth, slayer, and fast paced game of CTF)

I could go on about the map's mistakes and glories, but I've already had my monthly mapmaking rant, as seen HERE (http://www.modacity.net/forums/showpost.php?p=454372&postcount=28), so I'll skip that for now. Honestly, fuck the intended gameplay space. Fuck it sideways. It looks sexy, it has its blemishes, some parts are done perfectly, some need to be ironed out, but just throw all of that out for now.
THE UNPLAYABLE AREA GOES ON FOREVER!!!
It took me just an easy pair of grenade jumps to get up to, then out of, the separating tier between the playspace and the surrounding terrain, and then I just go to walking. It's so fucking huge out there, it gives me a sense of awe.
Go have a look for yourself.

How many tris is that anyway? Seriously, 5000 tris for an area that's mostly invisible from the main playable area? Could've been put to better use making the Forerunner stuff look nice.
I think like it, but it looks too similar to Fracture. I dunno if it's the textures or lighting, but somehow it looks... I'm not sure if ugly is the right word, maybe disconcerting. There's not quite enough variance in the textures/lightmaps, and it makes the whole thing blend together, idk, rather like an avocado-chocolate milkshake.:ohdear:

Wait. Did Fracture have extra terrain as well? Maybe that explains why it was so laggy.
I decided to have a look at the model, and it can be cut down from 16k to 9k or so without any impact on what you'd see in the normal playable area.

No, fracture didn't. This map is laggy? It's probally from the scenery and the covy crate vehicles. Though, I never got a complaint about being as laggy as fracture. The mapis also large due to several things, including music, scenery/vehicles, ans so forth.

Not that I've noticed, though I've only tested it locally so idk. I was referring to Fracture, since some people(including me) were getting ridiculous ping on it.
Mind if I fiddle with the model a bit? Not going to stick it in CE or anything, just remodel some of the Forerunner parts.

Ask dee, he knows about this too, he's seen the tagest while lightmapping. Fracture also has 300+ scenery objects, advanced lightmapping, 2048 textures, which makes it very nice looking, but then again, made it poor for anyone who couldnt run something like crysis.
And yeah, Go crazy with the model :downs:

I had no issues with it, though after looking at it, there's about 50% to much extra scenery outside the playable area. Once the hills/mountains outside the playable area start to slope down away from the direction the player can see it's all useless stuff.
Good choice of music by the way, I added it to my collection including the Alpha (ftp://halotune:halocommusic@174.0.56.34/OCRemix/Marathon_The_Forerunner_Mix_%28Alpha%29_OC_ReMix.m p3) and Beta (ftp://halotune:halocommusic@174.0.56.34/OCRemix/Marathon_The_Forerunner_Mix_%28Beta%29_OC_ReMix.mp 3) remixes.

I complained to higuy about this as well. That took up almost 60% of the lightmap UVs. Which is why the tree shadows dont even show up because they only get 2 px of actual lightmap data. Not to mention that moving the camera around in 3ds max was a bitch.

Map is looking good though. Can't wait to go roaming on the huge space. Love areas like that. :v:

That's easy, their isn't any player clipping.
Also, the collision of the covy things is messed up. The collision isn't in the right spot. You can step ontop and almost hide yourself.

The collision meshes of the Covenant crates are messed up.That's because they are vehicles, not scenery.
Even though there is a slight bit of novelty to this (slight, because CMT already did it in their earlier version of The Silent Cartographer), I find it quite odd and pointless to have them implemented on a multiplayer map.
Also, I wish I had a video of what I just did. I got out of the map with a single grenade jump and some crafty slide-jumping, then climbed up to the top of the steeper, yet shorter, mountain (rocket-spawn side) and slid down. As I was gliding down, I was rapidly tapping my jump key in hopes of going airborne. Thusly, just as I reached the less-slanted terrain that allowed me to jump, I went VERY airborne, so much that I managed to die by falling before I even had a chance to reconnect with the ground.
That said, we need maps that intentionally make use of HCE's gravity and motion pohysics.
