It's not as awesome a 4x4 as Kornman's, but it does tackle land slides rather well (first year we had it, still had tires from the rock quarry).

It's too bad the last 'post-your-car' thread went all to hell.

Yeah, high idle's pretty common on vehicles these days. My van's was ECM-controlled, and my truck's is mechanically controlled. Awesome to be in 5th gear, 50kph (30mph) and sittin' at 1050 rpm, haven't touched the throttle since starting it up.

Sounds pretty cool from the interior, I suppose. How about setting the camera down right at the tailpipe and revvin' it a bit? :)

The way I go to school is like hell in the morning during rush hour. Its bumper to bumper, and if I you try to slow down to give yourself room people will just full the spot right away. People weave in and out and ride your ass, definitely not ideal driving conditions.

Anyway, the guy in front of me had to slam on his brakes when somebody slowed down to turn left, and barely stopped before without hitting them. My vehicle being much heavier than his (+my reaction time) was not able to stop fast enough before hitting him. (I also pushed him into the car in front of him too).

Still deciding what I want next. I think it's time for a change from what I have now.

I've narrowed down my options to two that I want really badly.

A) 03 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab Short Box
B) 05 Pontiac GTO with a 6.0

Plans for putting an STS turbo kit on my next ride btw.

Cortexian

Sad part is, from what I've heard both the GTO and the Silverado will use a similar amount of fuel. Difference is, the Silverado is more practical and useful for more things.

The Silverado probably has the 6.0L Vortec, right? Good, solid engine, but a little hard on fuel. I run a 2006 Sierra at work with the 6.0L, and it's plenty fast and powerful. EDIT: And it's plenty powerful even thought it's a 3500 crew cab long box towing a trailer.

Yeah I would get a 6.0 vortech because Imo cummins makes the only decent v8 diesel.

The GTO is a beast though. It is far from ricer. It's a typical muscle car. Take a normal family type car (Holden Monaro) and slam the biggest engine you can (LS2) into it.

To me paying $20,000 for A Hot looking GTO is worth a lot more then paying $70,000 for some fiberclass hunk of crap with the same engine in it known as the corvette.

Same here in Florida, I was technically at fault. That shit happens all the time in that area and it's always the driver in back that gets blamed. I was just lucky enough to be the one involved this time. There's been other time where I came close but was able to avoid it. My bro has had numerous situations like that that he's been able to avoid when going down there. My sis was in a similar accident there ~7 years ago where she would have been blamed but there were so many cars involved that they decided it was more fair to spread the blame equally.

In short: shit happens, sometimes you get fucked. ( That statement also applies to life in general btw.)

Varmint260
October 16th, 2009, 08:37 PM
Yeah I would get a 6.0 vortech because Imo cummins makes the only decent v8 diesel.

If you're referring to the Cummins in the Dodge pickups, that's an inline six, not a V8. As for them making the only good diesel in the pickups, I do tend to agree. Ford hasn't had a reliable diesel in their pickups since the 7.3L Powerstroke, and while the Duramax in the GMs and Chevs is a really good diesel, the Allison automatic they all come with nowadays isn't really that tough a transmission. Oh, EDIT: The last couple of Ford diesels were made by Navistar/International (7.3L, 6.0L and 6.4L Powerstrokes), but with all the problems that the 6.0L and 6.4Ls have had, I hear their next diesel is going to be Ford-built, a turbo diesel called the Scorpion?

But yeah, everything I can tell about the 6.0L Vortec is that it's a great motor, as long as you don't mind buying a little gas.

As for the GTO? It does look a little like a ricer, but then, so do all the new "retro" muscle cars. The new Chargers, Challengers, Mustangs, Camaros... they all look a bit like ricers. Doesn't mean they don't pack a punch :)

Please don't get HID's, they're only useful for being a giant fucking dick to oncoming traffic.

On that note, we got some boss LED Vision X off-road lights on our new bumper:
http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/9638/web01d.jpg
http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/4427/web02sz.jpg
http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/5489/web03g.jpg
http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/8555/web04q.jpg

40° outside lights that we still need to angle outwards a bit. 10° center spotlight that lights up a good 200m in front of the vehicle.

The end-caps on the bumper double as locking storage bins that are completely water/weather proof. Entire bumper has a nice powder coat on it.

It's a 2008 Rubicon Unlimited.

Dad wants to trade it up for a 2012 now that they've got the Pentastar engine with 285hp and better fuel economy... Might look into an engine swap instead, V8 HEMI anyone?

Just be careful with those HID's, especially when you've got your high-beams on... You might come across someone like us who'll literally blind you by flicking on their off-road lights if you don't turn off your high-beams while passing... The new LED lights alone throw out 3,446 Lumens, possibly closer to 4,000 though I'm just going off the website specs for the individual 3w LED's in each light. Lumen amount is different for the size of lights you get in these, for example you can get a 40" long light bar that has seventy-two LED's in it... LOL.

1988 Range Rover, ~8 mpg with Mid-Grade fuel, with no heat running, no radio, and on a good day. Was $200 and I needed something to get around after my last car died, so I took the offer. No lighter, no a/c, seats are locked in position, left passenger door and trunk do not lock, constantly needs to be jumped due to battery draining when car is off, and it sounds something fierce due to a baseball sized hole in the muffler(I think whatever made the hole is still in there)

1996 purely for the LT-4, I prefer the styling of the 80s C4. Had the option for a ZR-1, but I HATE green cars and I LOATHE tan interiors. I intend to replace the interior with red leather seats and carpeting, get an Admiral Blue paint job (possible Grand Sport tape stripe to go with it), black 5-spoke Grand Sport wheels, polish the A-arms and visible metal bits under the hood, replace the brakes and lights with C5 counterparts, and get a decent exhaust (stock C4 exhaust on any year is poop). Going to basically turn it into a show car, I don't intend on changing the performance really because Corvettes are designed very purposefully and I see no need to change it. I do not intend to race, so I would get nothing out of a 700hp car that I don't already get out of my nearly 400hp car.

Also, I don't see a picture...where is picture...

That car is quite a looker. I'm not one for ragtops, but that ride is hot. Any numbers?

Old road-pounders are awesome, but the newer cars invariably offer a better ride and are more practical in every way. The Corvette has always been known as a more pragmatic sports car, but even the old ones have nothing on the newer ones in that regard. That said, I have to say my favourites are the C4 generation (1984-1996) and the late C3 (1978-1982). The C5s are just bubbly C4s with less efficient drive trains and the C6s are much more refined C5s; but they look kinda meh with similar styling as the Dodge Viper...which hasn't changed much visually since its early 90s debut. I like the Viper, I don't like copycatting.

What's interesting is that, assuming the details under your name are accurate, we are not that far from each other.

I cant say that much about it, its actually my dads and I haven't messed with it a whole lot. He got it like 4 years ago and has restored it all basically, the hood just needs to be painted. Him and and I are now restoring a 72' Challenger though, the same exact car he had in high school which is pretty cool.

And yes, old cars are fun to drive but are indeed uncomfortable after a while. Its mostly for the nostalgia I guess, and that there just really cool to look at :P. Electronics stores
Airsoft stores

New:
4x4 Jeep parts stores

When working at these places, my paychecks go straight back into the store once I get paid. I was wondering around the 4x4 place and added up a cool $5,000 in easily bolt-on Jeep accessories that would be awesome. Another $15,000 in engine, lift, and wheel/tire stuff.

Actually, I took the pictures because peeps on the Corvette Forum demand it, and the one I uploaded here was shitty.

I've got a peculiar odor that sometimes shows up, smells like coolant. Could be the heater core, but since it still blows consistently hot and doesn't leave a residue anywhere I don't think that's it. My next guess is a head gasket, some gunk flew up onto my windshield from under the hood while driving today and wouldn't wipe off with the wipers.

Best case is that it's just some seepage from the radiator due to a worn cap or hose. I also need to grab myself a new O2 sensor, because one of the four went poof. Car still runs fine as far as I can tell, though. No overheating, funny noises, etc.

Besides, even good condition C4s are cheap to buy. Nothing awe-inspiring about it other than that they are awesome.

Is that red boot on the shifter standard? It doesn't seem that way with the rest of the interior being black.

Warsaw
September 14th, 2012, 11:08 PM
Lol, no. When I was looking at the car, it actually had a Hurst short-throw shifter installed by the original owner. I had it removed because it was actually harder to shift and it rattled something terrible when the car hit a resonant vibration around 2300 RPM. The dealer (Cooper Corvettes, great guys) said they'd install the factory one free of charge if I bought the car, and they did. I asked them to keep the boot, because I have plans for the styling of the car.

Red carpet under the dash (but not the floor), red leather on the door panels instead of black, two-tone red/black seats, and red floor-mats with Grand Sport or C4 emblems.

As for the outside, I want to have it painted (she needs some paint, have some delamination and pitting all over with a nasty chip on the underside). I want her painted like the 1996 Grand sport...except keeping black as the base colour. I also intend to add Grand Sport-style wheel-arch flares (not sure if I want to glass them in or not) and the Grand Sport A-mold wheels.

tl;dr: I want her to basically be a "Grand Sport Lite." I have the powertrain of the Grand Sport in my car, but I don't have the advanced seating, sound system, and selective ride suspension found in the actual Grand Sport. It's just a base 1996 coupe with the LT-4 engine and ZF6 transmission. Don't even have remote locks or passive keyless entry.

3 Cylinder 1.0L and still higher top speed on a highway than a 6L pickup :P Srsly though, nothing beats a small car with a go-kart feeling.

Our Ram 1500 5.9L V8 drifts every corner I take in the winter. I could probably slow down, but fuck that.
The 2500 with Cummins turbo diesel is infinitely superior to any other truck on the market.

Any.

Other.

Truck.

On the market.

I've always preferred Dodge trucks to Ford and Chevy.

Rams just look much better anyway.

The Cummins are OK I guess, but not if you like to off-road where there's a risk of roll-over (welp goodbye engine).

Also, some CO-OP gas near here filled their gas tanks with diesel by mistake the other day and tons of people filled up using it. At least CO-OP is paying for repairs. For everyone.

6.2L V8? Sounds like an LSx to me, or at the very least one of the small-block Chevy engines. That car is a Holden VZ (dat badge), I think, so that means GM, which means access to Corvette parts. That means SBCs, which means best V8 in the world, which means fast+cheap, which means also around 24-32 MPG at 430 CHP with an LS3. No idea what you'd get making over 600 RWHP, but if the ZR-1 is any indication with its supercharged LS9, it shouldn't be down much from that. Even the 7.0L LS7 gets roughly the same, producing 505 naturally aspirated CHP.

I'm still packing a 5.7L Gen II SBC. Only 330 CHP, around 310 to the wheels if the math is right. Not sure if I want to do anything to it, though, unmolested LT4 engines are rare. :p
