In the market for a TV right now. Looking for a good 40" 1080p.
Anybody have any opinions about the following two?
Samsung 6000 series 120 Hz (An "LED" TV you hear all the commercials about) - $1300

Sony XBR9 240 Hz - $1350

Thanks.

I have a personal preference for Samsung over Sony. Sony's more expensive TVs are ok but the cheaper ones looked pretty crappy back when I was looking for an HDTV.
Sharp has some nice panels as well and Dell used to have lots of deals on them - maybe you can get something for cheap from them.

Personally, I only buy Samsung for TVs. None of us will be able to sway you (at least, you shouldn't let us) becuase chances are, none of us have ever seen nor used either of those TVs.
Google for reviews, check out forums ([H]ard forum, A/V forum, etc) to see any problems or "fan" threads, then go to a store and check them out. If you are unwilling to do that then search for pictures of the TVs. There are ways to take pictures of screens in use that will show case their quality quite well, it's not an accurate way to represent eithers personal viewing but comparing the two will give you an idea of how they stand next to each other, without them actually doing so.
I currently own a 5 Series (or 6 series, I can't remember?) 32'' Samsung 1080p LCD and it's amazing, better quality than any of the three 40'' Sony LCD 120hz TV's in my sisters house house (that she paid 2.5k+ for, 6 months ago, when I paid $949 a year ago for mine.) Samsung is also (at least, last I checked) the go-to company for displays for Microsoft events, so that says something to their quality. If their going to represent a video medium to you, their going to choose the best brand of them all to make it look it's best.
tl;dr - buy samsung.

Yeah, well, I ran into a bit of a nasty surprise. I was going out today to buy the Samsung (checked online first) and every fucking store in the world raised their prices $200-$300. I guess there was some discount over the weekend or something and now I'm fucked.

Sucks. Wait it out, prices are going to drop, and LED is a relatively new technology to the market so it'll be dropping in prices. Check to see when next years models release and either buy a current year model for a cheap price or buy next years for a bit more but hopefully more refined.
Also, SSD. kthnx
