So on my rig I had the stock CPU fan and I went to see if I could overclock it mb, and the temp gauge says it was running at 87 degrees Celsius. I freaked out, ran to the local computer store, bought a kick ass cpu fan, took my whole computer apart, cleaned everything, and put it all back together. It did not change a degree in either direction. I'm thinking faulty temp gauge mb? Thoughts?

What are you using to check the temperatures? I started using SpeedFan, and it was giving me readings of 100+C. When I switched to EVEREST, everything seemed to be fine with temps idling around 40/50C.

I checked in the BIOS and PC Probe II but I'll try everest

I got everest and my each core reads out to be about 40 or 50 degrees Celsius, but the CPU overall temp is still saying 87 degrees..

That's strange. Maybe the sensor is defective or has been damaged.

Dick question of the day: did you put new thermal paste in between the processor and the fan?

I used some weird program that my GPU installed on me using when I upgraded my card and it would detect the temp of the CPU and GPU for me.

It didn't support quad core CPUs though, so it was all ERROR ERROR OVERHEATING BLARG and it said my temp was 4 times hotter than it really was.

I got real nervous for about an hour haha.
