I have a 40 gig hard drive in my laptop, and I can't think of what OS I should put on it. Right now I have build 7100 of Windows 7 32 bit, and I want to upgrade it to the RTM. But, I also want to put Ubuntu Linux 9.04 on it, because of the video editing software I found (among other awesome things Ubuntu does). I was thinking about dual booting, but I can't figure out how much space I should dedicate to each OS, or if dual booting is even a good idea for such a small hard drive as the one I have.

Opinions, help? <3

What's wrong with the video editing software available for Windows? I'd just upgrade it to the RTM and install some good editing software on that.

Good as in...? I've been using Windows Movie Maker and it sucks dongs. The one that I want that runs on Ubuntu is called KDenLive (http://www.kdenlive.org/). I don't want to have to pay for editing software atm either.

Now it comes down to 'what about my OS?' and the space it should take.

If you install the stuff I mentioned, make your Windows partition larger than your Ubuntu one, or just don't install Ubuntu.

e: wait can't you upgrade your laptop hdd? do this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136314) or this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136279)

I would, but my dad is skeptical about buying things on-line. I tried to get a 150 gig from Frys electronics, but when I got there, they said they discontinued the hdd. (funny thing was they said nothing whatsoever about that on their site)

E: goes for Abdurahman too

Give your dad the money first, than tell him that you should buy it online. If anythong goes wrong it's just your money down the drain.

You can trust newegg. My dad was just like yours. He did not trust online purchases at all. But then we bought our first thing online. Then we bought more things online. I think over the past few years I (as in my dad's money lolz) have spent 2-3 grand on newegg.com alone, not even including other sites like amazon, ncix, etc.

Newegg has never failed me. Their customer service is top notch. They will RMA anything.
