I plan on attending University of Fairbanks Alaska next year, and spend those several years getting a BA in petroleum engineering. After hearing about pipelines and other things about oil and gas in Australia I was thinking about maybe moving there. But one thing I know about Australia is the vast amounts of venomous creatures you guys have. So do you guys constantly check things before using it such as towels, gloves, shoes, and shovels? If I move there should I be very cautious about these venomous little creatures? That's the only negative reason why I was thinking about not moving their is because of constantly checking your shoes or other appliances for venomous critters.

Then again, Alaska is a good place for the same things but I'm sick of the cold already.

No lol. If you're walking through the bush then you keep an eye and ear out (you'll hear them before you see a lot of the bigger ones) but other than that, not really.

If you're planning on living in built up citys, then you'll be right. If you live further our you might see a snake every now and then (I think we've had 5 pass through our yard that we've seen in the last 10 years vOv one of them was a big fucker though, hahaha).

If you live a little further out of town though, you'll want to have a rifle incase snakes come to play.

real men use shovels.
no i'm not joking.

Living in australia is fine tbh, you've got to remember that animals are more afraid of you then you are of them.
you leave them alone they leave you alone and keep the pests outta ya yard for ya :)

The venomous snakes are not the ones that I'm scared of. If I even saw a venomous snake I would never kill the thing since I love snakes. It's just the little tiny buggers that I'm alittle iffy about. Like the funnel webs and shit that can end up biting you if you don't check your shoes.

On the plus side, I plan on having quite a collection of exotic animals. :realsmug:

You don't get many of those up north, they mainly hang around the Sydney and central coast area. Redbacks, however are fucking everywhere. Oh, and white-tail spiders. You know? The little fuckers that cause necrosis? Yeah.

Besides, it's not spiders you should be worried about, it's the bloody crocs.

Fancy going for a swim n00b?

not only does QLD not have any surf at all for 90% of it due to the great barrier reef, but your waterways are also infested with crocodiles and the beaches are plagued by stinging jellyfish's.

oh and i dont get funnelwebs where i live.
suck it swamp person.

No surfing but some of the best diving in the world~
Who goes swimming in rivers anyway, you wana get dead? (and no crocks in the dams I swim in vOv)
Also, jellyfish only during November - Febuary

Never gets fucking cold here, hasn't been as hot as you've had last year in a few here (flood schmood)

E: omg why do i keep letting myself be trolled by you saying that, I am so dumb http://sae.tweek.us/static/images/emoticons/emot-psypop.gif

Bad idea, try a shotgun. If you miss with said rifle, you are fucked.

Not sure if you'd get any benefit moving here versus elsewhere in the US; far as I can tell, mining and agriculture are still far more important here. I have seen a few areas being checked out but for now at least I'm not sure just how secure gas/oil is compared to mining.

With regards to the spiders... funnel-webs are generally not found more than a few hundred kilometres from Sydney, but once you get out that far, you have far larger problems. For the most part we have highly venomous yet very timid snakes; the inland taipans, copperheads and blacks will take off at the first sign of danger. The other taipans and browns will go for you, though. As long as you're careful, you should be fine. I've never seen a live venomous snake in the wild here (have seen a few pythons, they're harmless though). I have seen wild funnel-webs. We used to have a lot come into our house when the weather turned nasty, but the ducks soon solved that problem.

1, i did. built campfires, shacks, bridges jettys ect out of anything we could, felled trees, vines ropes scrap tin to go along with our fuckign sweet diving/ jumping trees as well as robe and bar swings that let you get awesome hangtime and or tricks.
and the ladies couldnt get enough of that shit (got super fit as well)
best times of my life.

2: november-feb happen to be summer, you know the best time of the year to go to the beach. it's 40+ up there and a trip to the beach means getting owned by jellys (fucking lol)

3: you seem to think perpetually hot and humid weather is ideal.
this is a nasty side effect of spending too much time in hot humid weather.
you should see your doctor.

4: u iz dum.
