Hes an Order of the British Empire which contains different 'ranks' and you get recognised for your work accordingly.

Patrick Stewart is currently an OBE (Officer), being knighted makes him become a CBE (Commander), which is "Sir".

Its confusing, basically being a GBE > KBE > CBE > OBE > MBE.

Bob Geldof is an KBE, David Beckhams an OBE.
