One shouldn't get high in public any more than they should get drunk imo. Public intoxication is just retarded.

Ironically, there have been no deaths directly linked to smoking it. I'm sure it'll do weird stuff to your lungs after a while and make you short of breath, but it's pretty much proven that it won't kill you.
And I think the tar and danger from cigarettes comes from all the extra chemicals they pump into it, shit is literally poison. If they were just 100% tobacco I bet they'd be much less hazardous.

This brings up an interesting question: if marijuana were legalized, and cigarette bigwig companies started producing joints for sale, I wonder if the tar and bullshit would be stuck in with the weed as well?

It sounds like the study was to find the differences in risks between smoking and drinking, not to prove that they have risks.

Yes, although not tar, and for whatever reasons it turns out not to be significant.
THC stagnates the growth of tumours (http://www.scienceblog.com/cms/marijuana-ingredient-cuts-lung-cancer-growth-spread-18538.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+scienceblogrssfeed+%28Science +Blog%29).
Here's a researcher at UCLA giving an interview on his extensive study which is tl;dr if you're still interested (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJmQ16cGBHU)
In the end pot smokers in the study had a lower instance of lung cancer, bizarrely. (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/25/AR2006052501729.html)
As for the legalization issue, I've decided I'm quite happy with the way things are, I have much better access than I do to the inferior alcohol. As for corporate control in a world of legal cannabis, it might be pretty bad. Mexican cartels have never run any ads of idyllic Midwestern landscapes and salt of the earth farmers to distract me from their reputation, and they actually have something to sell me.:realsmug:

Lol, such BS. Inhaling carbon dioxide, NO MATTER WHAT will affect your lungs. It doesn't matter which one, they both produce carbon when burned. CO2 will affect your lungs. I believe that is the major problems with smoking anything.

If you smoke pot accept it side effects and don't be a tool about it. Don't hop onto the "oh it might cure cancer" bandwagon.
Smoke contains aggressive carbon molecules that damage your lung. Just fucking accept it. There is a reason your body coughs and smokers have more problems breathing.

Really, either all recreational drugs with potentially harmful effects should be banned, including alcohol and tobacco, or they should all be legalized and controlled similar to what we (Ontario) do with alcohol now. Is consistency too much to ask for? :allears:

I've known this since I was 7. If people my age (I'm 16) ask me why I don't smoke Pot or why I think it's harmful, it's this and other conditions caused by it. Not offending anyone who smokes pot, but I just don't like the risks involved. Drinking is up to you, but in access is always a bad thing.

Banning alcohol and tobacco isn't going to happen. The companies make way too much money.
most of the anti-drug commercials are funded by alcohol and tobacco companies.
The whole thing is economics.

in response to above darkhalo, my issues with it are the negative opinion surrounding it, the illegitimacy of it, and the chance of a personal addiction. to elaborate, if i were to ever be discovered on marijuana, my dad would probably understand, but i have family members who have no ability to think for themselves and thus would automatically assume im some kind of drug lord or something. the illegitimacy thing ties in here. recently 3 students were expelled from my school for dealings with marijuana. now, given they were fucking imbeciles and were dealing it in the school parking lot, they still got expelled and still got jail time. theyre basically fucked for a long time now. im 16, and tbh i really dont wanna fuck up my future like that. i know the chances are low, but i dont wanna take that risk, you know what i mean? on the addiction topic, i understand that its not a physically addictive drug, but i personally might develop an addiction to it and use it as an anti-depressant. i tend to get angry and down quite often. those times are when i seriously consider getting into marijuana to lift me up, because i know i just wanna be happy, but then i think to myself that i want to be happy without the use of a substance.
i just really wish people wouldnt get so royally fucked when they are discovered to be involved with marijana.

Hell, legalize it or atleast decriminalize it. People getting sodomized in jail for carrying an ounce of Marijuana, doesn't seem like a fair punishment.

decriminalize it.
That is the only "good" way to do it, otherwise Marijuana will turn into another cigarette; more chemicals, weaker marijuana, and subject to taxes which means even higher prices.
