View Full Version : Custom Program Splash Screens

This might not matter to any of you at all but I just figured out how to make custom splash screens for different programs.

Using a resource hacker you can find here http://www.wilsonc.demon.co.uk/d10resourceeditor.htm I opened the splash.dll in Max 8's root folder, extracted the original splash screen, edited it, and replaced it with the new one. I don't know if this can cause any problems at all but so far I've had nothing bad happen. It's a simple image hack though so there shouldn't be anything wrong with it. If any of you are interested enough to do it I'd like to see what you can come up with. This can probably be done for any program with a splash screen btw such as Photoshop :iamafag:.

Here's my new Max 8 splash screen.

Not a clue if any of these files are in win7 or not but worth a look (http://www.askvg.com/list-of-vista-system-files-to-be-hacked-using-resource-hacker/)

Found a better, more advanced resource editor. http://www.wilsonc.demon.co.uk/d10resourceeditor.htm

You should be more concerned about your PC itself. That thing is pretty ancient. What sort of use do you get out of it besides 3D modeling?

Actually it's not ancient. I didn't have enough money to buy new parts so I bought parts from about 1 1/2 years ago but at least it's not still made of 5 year old parts. It runs great, but I still need a better computer I have to admit. I have 2 gb of ram in it, geforce 7600 gs gfx card, celeron single core 3.2 ghz processor which is overclocked to 3.5 ghz, and a foxconn 915 mobo. It's not great but it's in no way ancient.

Holy fuck. A Radeon 9250? I was running on that from when I was 11 until I was 16 and that card was used by my mother since I was 9. Card's ancient. But I won't lie, It got me through so many days of Halo and thank god or else I wouldn't be where I am with games and computing today. (yay)

Love these splash screens. Good find =) Also, "That is freakin' Sweet!"

At first I thought you were being a smart ass. No, it doesn't do anything like that.

idk. There's a program it came with to switch the boot screen so it converts it. Looking at the screen on bootup I think it's 16-bit but I'm not sure. :-/

Holy fuck. A Radeon 9250?"

I just said what I CURRENTLY have a few posts up. Not everyone updates their profile specs dude >_> This is my card (http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/geforce_7600_gs_preview/)

And what's that supposed to mean? If you're trying to be a smartass you fail.

It means exactly as i wrote it.
It was a question.
Also if your motherboard has two IDE slots then why are you dedicating one slot per hard drive?
Would you not be better off having two IDE cables, one for the two HDD's and one for the DVDRW.
You can easily get IDE cables with two plugs for different devices.

This may surprise you but I don't play games as much as any of you really. I haven't needed to use my cd drive since I got my new mobo. What I will be doing soon though is getting two new harddrives to replace my other two and they will be SATA so I can hook up the DVD burner. they're old and might fail(but not anytime soon). I have my computer set up like this:

80 GB primary IDE slot:
Partition 1: Drive C, 12 GB(used for operating system)
Partition 2: Drive D, 3 GB(used for backup operating system)
Partition 3: Drive E, 60 GB(used for all my program files)

80 GB Secondary IDE slot: 1 partition used for all my documents, scenes folder in 3ds max, backup install files, drivers, programs, etc.

This way if anything ever goes wrong it's usually on the operating system partition which can be wiped without losing pretty much anything. Backup is there in case anything goes wrong and I cant get into the C drive's OS. Program files is separate because some things I want to keep are saved to them such as my oblivion mod I'm working on. All the textures and everything are in it. Hope that clears up why I am not using my dvd burner.

Well, you've updated them now, but my previous post was based on your profile specs. You went ahead and told us what you have currently, but you failed to specify that you didn't update your specs before I posted. So, when you quoted me and said your hardware isn't ancient, you fully knew that I didn't have access to that information.

My mistake, I was getting mixed up with you and AAA since you both commented about my ancient gfx card. I got the posts between the 2 of you merged in my mind and I thought that when he said "Holy fuck. A Radeon 9250?" it was you. Sorry for the confusion :P

No problem man. There's always potential for confusion when multi-quoting is involved haha.

Create custom splash screen applications that display flash movie or an image and then run a program or any other type of file. Use transparent images with variable or single color transparency - perfect for non-rectangular splash screens! Generate an Autorun file for splash screens distributed on CD. Specify system requirements that must be met. Specify the duration of the splash screen and specify when the target file should run. This is my point of view and waiting for certain improvement in this process.
