So, I just registered about 5 minutes ago, decided to as I've been linked here a couple times, so why not.

I normally hang out at ModHalo, which will still likely be the case as you guys don't seem have much of a Halo PC section other than CE... Which is normally what I'm up to. But I thought I'd drop by and post a thread as I literally have nothing better to do, being it's about 5:30am. Probably going to sleep soon.

I don't really know many of you around here, probably just the Mac guys as I know they hang around here from ModHalo, but I remember Rossmum from the Xfire forums from what... 2 years ago or something? You wouldn't know me under this name anyway. Then there's Dee... yeah, I'll just leave it at that.

Maybe I'll stick around, maybe I won't, but either way. What's up?

Well, I slept like crap last night and I'm just getting ready to head out for my first class of the semester.

Welcome to the community! :) I do hope you'll stick around. We're a ragtag group, of course, but we're a helluva good time.

Heh, we're all in the same boat. I was up all night playing Arkham Asylum for the first time. Pretty good game.

Have you done any mod/art work? While we're a little bit light on the mods/maps lately (due to slow death of HCE and movement to Unreal/Source), the studio section has remained pretty active (mostly with models/textures). I suppose once we completely migrate to the newer engines it won't seem as slow as it looks.

Whether it's for a week or for a year, hope you enjoy your stay.

Well, I primarily mod Halo PC. Released a few good mods, and am currently working on a mod of the month project at MH and on the side, mod called FTW2.

This is our dedicated site for the latter mod I mentioned. Check it out.

If you guys did get a Halo PC section going, I know for a fact I could get some people at the least, releasing their mods over here. I don't know about staying, but I'm sure that would give you guys a start. Over at MH, since HM went down last month, modding has made quite a comeback. For instance for this MOTM alone we have had 15-20 people enter. There's still a lot of modders out there, and a lot of new ones coming up.

Hahah, yeah I'm the one with the cat.

i have very little recollection of the xfire forums other than the place was the biggest fuckfight i've ever seen in my life and it's probably for the best that they seem to have been shoved aside by more useful/less distressing memories. if you were to tell me your old username though it might jog my memory a little.

heathen, you guys are stuck with me until next month, at which point i will probably fuck right off.

I didn't post too often so I doubt it. I hung out in the Computers and Hardware section over there more than anything. I went under this Xfire at the time.

So, are you guys going to ditch that god-awful MC biped you had in FTW for FTW2? Also, might I suggest using that Halo 2 E3 2004 HUD as opposed to the one you currently have (which attracts too much attention to itself in a bad way).

Also, welcome to the board.

We already have a new biped, and a new HUD is in the works.
This is our section if you want to check out more or offer feedback, we have a thread dedicated to ideas for the HUD.

Welcome to the forums! Not much to say other than use your head and you'll fit in here just fine.

My aim is not to bash or be a smug bastard, but why stick to modding ole Halo PC? The reason we don't support HPC modding around here is because it's so limited. While making CE mods is still limited compared to Source or Unreal, there's a lot of BS and limitations you have to put up with in PC mods that are simply gone in CE, e.g. When you make a map, it's its own map. You don't replace an existing one and hope that the people joining your server also have the mod. Then again, it's been years since I've touched HPC, not sure if the modding scene there has come any ways from what I knew form the brief time I was there.

Not much has changed really. It is mostly just swapping meta tags and seeing what comes out of it. But you can do PC mods on CE maps and even the other way around. FTW is Pepsi's last halo PC project I think. And Tucker has made some real time liquid particles for PC.

Well to be honest, with today's tools, you can do literally everything you can in CE aside from custom BSP's, scripts and making your own real lightmaps. Which I might add, you could easily bring over to a PC map without any trouble if you so wanted. Personally, I do PC modding for the challenge.

With Eschaton 0.8 you can rebuild a map as many times as you want in not much more than 3 easy clicks. You can externally and internally extract tags, internalize and read bitmaps and sounds, edit CE maps without converting, rename tags, do the usual meta editing and reference swapping. You can even use whatever plugin you would like, make a folder, name the folder what you want, put your different plugin in, and in the meta editor, choose which plugin you want to use for what tag if you so happen to prefer different plugins for different things, there's always a reason for that, completely replacing HMT and HHT. A new replacement for Spark Edit is in the works as well.

Sweet. I have the original FTW installed on my HPC, and while fun, the choice of biped really ruined the experience. I know he just wanted to give some recognition to the maker and to do the mod his way, but it was honestly a poor decision. Glad to see that a decent looking one is in there now.

Also, meltable snowman mbmb?

Naw, sadly, it's just a snowman model with no collision. That's all it would have to be for a joiner friendly game.
Timberland is currently released as a beta, as well as 5 other maps. Go check them out at the link to MH I provided earlier.
