View Full Version : I need a difficult to disable alarm clock...

Been having issues getting up on time lately. My alarm is already all the way across my room and under a desk and it's loud enough to wake me up, however it's so easy to disable (one button, fairly small but I know exactly where it is) that I can disable it and get back into bed and fall asleep again in under 15 seconds...

I need an alarm that's difficult to disable, or requires you to solve some kind of basic puzzle before it will turn off... Needs to be battery powered with a difficult to access battery compartment or I'll just unplug the thing from the wall before waking up and disabling the alarm.

I like my sleep.

I'll get up perfectly fine in certain circumstances (hunting for example, I'm the first one awake in our group and I don't even use an alarm).

If you've seen something like this online, would be awesome if you could link me to it so I can buy one.

I set mine an hour early so I have time to hit snooze a few times. But ya, i do the same thing sometimes. My clock is so loud that other people in my house will turn it off. I still be sleeping.

I have clocky, it works wonders, but if your room is a mess you don't want it as it hides very, VERY FUCKING WELL. Instead google atomic alarm clock, you strap the clock to your bed and when it goes off it plays a bombing siren and then makes the noise of an atomic explosion and rattles your bed, scares the fuck out of you. :iamafag:

There's no real place for clocky to hide in my room except under my bed, and if it hid anywhere else I'd get it very easily! The flying alarm clock could work Coja, I went straight to ThinkGeek before posting this, however same problem... If the key lands anywhere in my room it will be fairly easy to grab and then I'll disable the alarm pretty quick.

That is one fucking pro alarm clock. I need one.

As for me, all I need is for someone to burst into my room and yell "HALLWAY 16" now :haw:

I've been thinking about this myself lately. I dont want an alarm that plays an overwhelming loud sound for the sake of my family. I think what would work best is an alarm that plays a mildly loud, highly annoying noise and also turns on the light in your room. This would require some engineering, but if it worked like a power strip, so you can plug the lamp into the alarm into the wall, then the lamp could work normally and also help the alarm in doing its job. *dons the engie cap* I should build this

Saw that on Google... Only thing that might vaguely work is the Sfera clock and it's just a concept. :saddowns:

I just found my senior prank.

Now I just have to find out how to set the thing on a timer, how I'm gonna get enough of those, and how to get them into the school.

Do what I do, use the computer.

www.onlineclock.net (http://www.onlineclock.net) (the alarm they use is the same sound used in Windows Space Cadet Pinball)

Turn speakers ALLLLL the way UP. Close all doors to your room so as not to be rude. I use this alarm even though my landlord lives upstairs. Very effective for several reasons:

1) Your computer is probably not bedside... Is it?
2) Loudest alarm you will ever hear
3) Annoys the fuck out of you
4) You can set up multiple alarms

However, I found the sound used in that site too annoying, so I downloaded this program called Atomic Alarm Clock, which provides a lot of sound options and a really mellow, classic alarm clock sound.

Edit: Btw, there's a rule in psychology that states the best way to wake someone up is to simply call out their name. Why is this? Because our brains are still processing information and senses even as we're asleep (think REM sleep and the fact that our muscles are relaxed, yet the brain is not). The brain filters out unnecessary sounds and responds to things you're familiar with. What better way to respond to something than your own name? If you can somehow make a custom .mp3 sound file with a recording of someone calling out your name, and use it as an alarm clock sound, you just might have an easier time waking up.

Fun Fact: I just found this on Yahoo! Answers, on what the best way to wake someone up is

"Apply a gentle and steady pressure over the tragus of the ear. The sleeping person will wake up with a smile. This is the procedure followed by a nurse when she wakes up a patient."

Makes sense, now that I think about it, that really would put a smile on my face, especially if the nurse was a lady. *gloat*

It happens automatically in my case. I'm not actually awake when I do it.

A transformer outside my bedroom window literally exploded once. By all accounts it lit the street up like it was broad daylight and sounded like someone had set off a thousand-pound bomb. I slept like a baby.

I understand, i used to have the same problem.

Also, i used to moan/groan really badly when in the waking up stage, i honestly thought there was no way to control this, because i was "sleeping".
It pissed my wife off for months, till one morning she went fucking mental, swearing and shouting and shit.
I never did it again.

Yeah, I act like the walking dead for up to an hour after I wake up.

Having various angry corporals on your cases fixes that pretty well, but only as long as they're around. I tend to slip back into my old habits at home.

I'd be looking forward to basic too if I were medically eligible...:saddowns:.

Still, I kinda like that hanging clock. It seems simple and very effective without being obnoxious.

Having reviewed at least two dozen different iHome alarm clocks over their five-year run in stores, we could easily have tired of the numerous iterations long ago. They are, after all, plastic shells with clocks, speakers, and alarm hardware inside, most with far more in common than not. But unlike many developers, iHome has continuously updated its products enough to make each one interesting on its own merits, and its just-released iA5 ($100) "app-enhanced" alarm clock is arguably the biggest break yet with its past offerings. Used with older iPods, iA5 is simply a radio-less, single-alarm design with an unusually simple clock on one side of its face, and a single speaker on the other. It doesn't compare in integrated features or value with the company's recently-released $100 dual-alarm.I hope this solution will solve your particular alarm clock.
