Well I WAS interested in this game (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=234693)

Y'know...exclusives are one thing but when they give a bullshit reason like "It's best experienced on a couch with an Xbox 360," I'm simply inclined to call them all tossers and let them fuck off.

This is lame.....Are the developers forgetting their roots? While we're on the subject of PC cancellations, Dead Space 2 is also unlikely for PC as well.

:suicide: I waited fucking 4 years for this game and now it's taken right from under me? And they have the nerve to release new screenshots for the game on the same day that they slapped our faces with their cocks? Fuck you, Microsoft.

Ahh cool, now they'll have more time to polish the 360 version :D

This is gay.

But it's old news. They stopped development of the PC version way before E3 2009.

It's rather pathetic since that game was originally supposed to be a DirectX 10 showcase.

Also, I just want to say...

We ultimately realised that the most compelling way to experience Alan Wake was on the Xbox 360 platform
LMAO, WHAT A LOAD OF BULLSHIT

Well it lost a sale, simple.

P.S. -- With the PC it's the user's choice whether or not to play it on the big screen TV with a controller. Some do... any they also lost your sale.

Why do you need a 40"+ TV you sit 10+ ft away from if you can have a 22"+ monitor you are 2 ft away from? Heck, I PREFER the monitor.

Exactly, I see no need to get a lolhueg tv when you can get closer to a monitor, you get the same average size

Holy shit I forgot about this game. Read about it in a Xbox mag I got a month after 360 launch...it's still not even out?

Fuck you Microsoft I thought this game looked badass...although it sounds a little too much like Silent Hill, which I guess is a good thing anyway.

I'm using my monitor to play my 360 atm. Maybe they meant with the uhh... the achievements really make the game worth playing :3

Your all dumb. Games look better on integrated 256mb graphics cards.

What is preventing them from integrating achievements into the game? Alan Wake is a Microsoft produced and endorsed game, so without a doubt it would be a "Games for Windows" title. I don't see how it wouldn't have achievements even if it was to be a PC title.

Seems like a legitimate enough decision. Some games you play on PC really feel like they'd work better on a console and to a lesser extent, some console games feel the opposite.

It's not like they're gaining sales by doing it this way so it's hardly a money-hungry decision.
Glad to see dev's actually doing what's right for the game instead of what the dev's would like, hopefully it turns out much better for it.

I've never run across a game like that. Examples?

Their choice seems similar to Infinity Ward's. Cutting corners to save more money, even though they're gonna rake in one hundred times the amount they spend, either way.

I see from the latest screens (360) we have much more tuned graphics now:

Plastic shaders, low texture res, no more universal real time reflection water, no more volumetric dynamic world shadowing - more like fear esque raycasted ones, over the top bloom instead of bursting HDR, no more sunrays, no more HDAO.

Now looks slightly better than GTA4 (on 360, not pc), instead of better than crysis.

And wasn't it originally a PC exclusive? I remember Intel were whoring this game up like there was no tomorrow on their latest processor, the Core 2 Extreme!!

It went from PC, to PC and 360, to just 360.

I went to their forums like 2 years ago, was like you'd imagine any sort of level headed 20 something year olders forum. I went 2 or so days ago, and it's just full of jibber jabber and 12 year olds about achievements and natal support...

What the fuck is the harm, in just releasing a digital version for steam if your so angry about pirating? Bundle it with the Max Paynes and the ps2 era GTA games or something and release it as a deal, it will sell, like hotcakes.

We all know all the consolees will simply rent the game out, or buy it than trade in, because:

A) no multiplayer

B) It's probably shortish, and you can't change armour parts and wield samurai swords with Alan

and C) they've blown their budget on all the SHITLOADS of games that have been coming out recently

Oh well. We lose Alan Wake, we gain Metro 2033.

I'm sad?

Wasn't this game announced like 3 or 4 years ago? It pretty much went completely silent until E3 2009. I wonder if the cause for the delay was due to Microsoft's bullshit surrounding the game. The migration from to extremely limited hardware must have been difficult.

The saddest part is that the original trailer for Alan Wake was basically a showcase of DirectX 10. It's pathetic that they ultimately went to the Xbox 360 which only supports DirectX 9.

It's not the same as the D9 from Windows. I may be wrong but thats what I remember.

On the topic of the game being ripped from you all - Well, complain about it or something.

Yeah, that is correct. The Xbox version of DirectX 9 is not exactly the same as the PC version. However, the Xbox version of DirectX 9 is still not DirectX 10 (or 11 as of now).

If you have experience with DirectX 9.0 for Microsoft Windows, you will notice the following major differences.

No Hardware Abstraction Layer
Not Based on COM
No Fixed Function Pipeline
EDRAM Memory Architecture

Realistically though, how many games actually take advantage of Direct x 10, much less make a noticeable difference in image quality? Even with Crysis, the only noticeable difference was object-based motion blur.

None, because all PC games are console ports now.

(Actually, Shattered Horizon is probably the only game out there which takes full advantage of DirectX 10 as a minimum requirement.)

Think about it this way, guys. At least we won't have to deal with DRM or a crappy job of porting it.

That isn't a plus. You still have the option of not playing it. Also, it's being published by Microsoft so I would expect some kind of activation DRM, not the crazier shit, such as Ubisoft's new extreme DRM methods.

Am I the only one that thinks this game looks boring as hell anyways?

Every bit of gameplay that I've seen of this game makes it look like it'd put me to sleep easy. The parts of the game that look more interesting are the teaser trailers from forever ago where there isn't any gameplay.

That might just be me though.

I agree with Llama: the trailer looked like a lackluster movie based off a Stephen King novel. Same goes for the similar-looking "Heavy Rain". These titles seem to include "gameplay" only in the definitive term, that they include a controller and hand-movement. They don't look fun.

Psychological thrillers barely work in film, where viewers can only attempt to unravel the mystery as it unfolds. In a game, though, you don't experience the same thing your character supposedly does. Especially when you're playing a character, rather than trying to immerse the player themselves in the situation. You know you saw something in that dim-lit corner, where your character spouts a samey line of "what was that?" dialogue. And so you don't connect quite as well to the situation. And it doesn't help that you're viewing everything from a third-person perspective. At least in movies they can work in suspenseful camera angles.
