Before I start, my house's network is laid out like so: we have an AT&T DSL modem with a Linksys WRT54GS router. There are three cables headed to three switches, one to an office upstairs, one to the living room, and one to my room. My room has an XBox 360, a Vonage device, and my PC.
Okay, so I've had this issue recently where for no good reason, my XBox, PC, and Vonage box can't reach the internet for about a day or so. Odd thing is, EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE HOUSE, WIRED AND WIRELESS, DOES NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. Everything else in the house can reach the internet no problem. Furthermore, I can see all other networked devices in this house from my PC, and my XBox can stream from all computers set up to allow for it. At first, I thought it was a new gigabit switch that was put in to replace a router I was using as a switch causing issues, but that can't be it. Firstly, I swapped the switch out with my router again and my stuff is sill offline. Secondly, I'm posting from my old PC which I'm getting set up to give to someone, and if the switch was the problem, I couldn't be doing this. My cables are intact, as again, I can see the rest of my home network, and I'm posting from a PC that's borrowing the same cable my PC uses, which goes to my switch, which goes to the router.
Everything checks out settings-wise; my PC gets a valid IP from the router's DHCP, and the person who has admin access to the router (I don't) says that all of my stuff is there on the DHCP table with valid addresses and everything. The network troubleshooter on Windows 7 claims my PC's settings are fine, but it just can't talk to the DNS servers the router provides. I'd set up my own IP and use a couple DNS address I've used for a while, but my stuff can't seem to access any external IP addresses at all.
What could possibly be causing this bullshit? And keep any possible fanboyism over ISPs, brands of network equipment, etc out of this thread, this shit is pissing me off and I really don't feel like dealing with posts saying that my ISP is the problem or my router is the problem just because of the brands. If you don't have anything useful to suggest, shut up and go shit up some other thread.
