So I'm living on-campus now and that means I get to use the uni's internets in my room.

Look at this.

That shit is fast.
Anyway, so I can DL games at like 1.3 mb/s with steam, obviously their servers can't pump it fast enough :realsmug:

BUT
It takes me ages to download any given 1 mb gif from 4chan, I have to buffer videos from youtube every few seconds, downloading files from other sites is no better.

wtf, please help D:

ps. this is only on-campus that I'm having this problem. My internet is WAY slower at home and I can watch youtube and shit fine.

a lot but that still wouldn't explain why it was so fast on steam and yet so slow with the other stuff would it?

See if changing your DNS server helps. Sometimes slow speeds could be due to the way you're being routed.

I had an episode with OpenDNS for several months where YouTube videos would load at like 100 kb/s. When I switched to Level3, the videos loaded almost instantly (took maybe 3 seconds for HD). Instead of taking 6 hops to get to YouTube, it was making around 15 hops and some routers even had severe latency. They blamed it on Verizon...

I have similar issues, but the way the school has set up the network, I can't change my DNS server.
