For those who have nVidia video cards and who have recently updated their drivers (196.75 driver) ..... roll-back your driver IMMEDIATELY!!!!

Otherwise you'll burn out your card.

Do they automatically update? Because since yesterday I have been having a/v delay.

I had it downloaded, was going to install today...

I used EVGA Precision to manually set my fan speeds anyways since I OC my GPU's a bit. I should have been fine but I'll wait this driver out.

Phew, I've got a 195.x driver.

I just reformatted my computer...Nvidia drivers were the next thing I was going to install. Ohshi

196.21 is fine.

Haha, this does not apply to my computer, since I run Ubuntu.

...right?

Don't bet on it unless you're using 'free' drivers.

All drivers are "free".

This will effect your PC regardless of OS if you're using official 196.75 drivers from Nvidia.

Does it autoupdate it or would I have to had updated?

And dwood, what the hell does that mean?

Cortexian

GPU drivers don't auto update unless you use the shitty ones that come in Windows Update.

Using Forceware driver version 91.28 here...:realsmug:.

If you're using the ones from the repo's you got 185.18.36... so no worries there I guess

hey nvidia fanboys that claim ati drivers suck, your company sure rolled out some quality drivers this time

/me had no idea driver wars existed between ATI/NVidia

I always thought drivers were shitty for every card, at least for the first 6 months or so.

Good thing I check for updates once every never or so.

I was wondering why BC2 froze so many times... Luckily I didn't burn anything on the hardware side. Gotta DL the previous driver then.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm still at 195.62; was thinking of updating soon but I suppose I'll wait until I hear something from NVidia.

EDIT: Just checked NVidia's website and only 196.21 seems to be available at the moment.

The Linux drivers are completely different from the Windows drivers. Our newest beta is 195.36.08
What Dwood means is the FOSS `nouveau` driver, which is free as in speech.

Heathen
March 6th, 2010, 06:46 PM
So when is it gonna be safe to update?

Lateksi
March 6th, 2010, 06:50 PM
Well I don't think they'll make another unsafe version so the next time a new version is up go get it.

I'm playing ME2 on the new drivers and I don't notice anything?!

Odd. My mate's computer stopped working around a week ago now. I switched out the power supply a couple of days ago and the graphics card started smoking/sparking (worst smell ever). I wonder if he could claim that it was these drivers ;o

Doesn't seem like they're going to take responsibility for the burnt hardware even though they caused it.
how lame is that?

... Wait, what? It wasn't a beta driver, was it?

Cortexian

No it wasn't, EVGA are offering RMA's for cards that went bye-bye. Don't know about the other sub-contractors though...

AMD would do the same. The warranty covers this anyways.

Cortexian
March 7th, 2010, 12:41 PM
The problem is that Nvidia doesn't actually Warranty their cards... The sub-contractors do.

Hmm, Its a good thing I didn't buy an Nvidia card last week like I was going to, I probably would have unknowingly installed the latest drivers when I installed the card. I like ATI more in some ways, but I really wanna make use of PhysX so I'm gonna get an Nvidia soon.

Varmint260
March 8th, 2010, 10:54 AM
I suppose PhysX is good but I'm still waiting for Nvidia's GTX200 cards to come down in price. Right now a 5750 or 5770 looks a lot more appealing. Benchmarks put them significantly above my card, though I guess I should look at a new processor or even a new motherboard with a newer socket type before getting a new GPU. Out of curiosity, do PhysX effects get offloaded to the CPU if you don't have an Nvidia card?

Warsaw
March 8th, 2010, 03:54 PM
^ Good luck. The GT200 line was shut down, so all that you see on the market are all that have been made and will be available. This means that since demand is staying fairly constant for it while the supplies dwindle, the price goes up.

Sel

this is why you dont buy shitty cards from shitty companies

You can't use PhysX without a nVidia GPU.

shitty cards
There's absolutely nothing wrong with the cards.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the cards.
Other than recorded cases of Nvidia cards having issues rendering certain shaders, multiple model versions for the same card ect ect.

I'm hesitant to go with ATI, i've been seriously considering the 3D nvidia offers, as well as physics, i just wish Project hydra would hurry up D:

Multiple versions of the same card is not a problem with the card, that's nVidia's terrible marketing.

I have the generation of card that is guilty of having issues with certain shaders and anisotropic filtering, and honestly I've never noticed anything wrong. Too low of a resolution maybe?

Brand-bias doesn't really help anyone. ATi is better than nVidia for one generation, and it can be the complete opposite for the next. As it is, ATi currently holds the lead and according to benches will still maintain the lead when Fermi is released.
