They say how they have a podcast, flash games, a community that's nice, and all this other bullshit. Well it's time we had something to stroke our E-peens on.
Introducing the Modacity Presidential Painting thread!
You simply post a picture of your face and I will paint you into a bold and strong noble man of the modacity area!!
Who else on the fucking internet can say " Yea, well we have painted galleries of our members in formal clothespin that kickass"
No dressing up required, just a basic profile of your face !!
This benefits the community via these paintings and helps me improve!
Below is the very first example, and of course will be the worse. I hope the person can be a very good sport and flattered he got to take the experiment run, which includes all the errors. Comes with the territory!
Anyways, without further ado, here is the first portrait!! Note, these will be put into fancy e-frames with names!!

Yes I am going out of order, wanna fight about it?

I have bods basic face painted down, but I need his opinion on what hat to use. I am going to make these as realistic as possible with a twist of humor for all of it to create a fuck yea effect.
Also dont mind the body, was just a thumb nail idea.

4. Nose is really tall/thin. I wouldn't concern yourself so much with the nostrils, it seems like that was the focus?
5. The mouth has the same problem as the nose, only on the X axis.
6. The parts are really small, but it seems like you started with the face, which is huge (probably why everything seems so small).
7. Head seems to be leaning left
8. My hair is red?
9. Easy mode for you: Hair should split right down the middle. It's a bit to the side in the photo, my bad.
10. Reason for hair gloss?

Overall, it doesn't seem like it's me as much as it does a gothic Michael Jackson. As for where the head goes? I always admired Sir Francis Galton...

I think that's the effect given between the offset of the hair and the glasses :)

I should probably up the pixel ratio on the pic and increase so I can be more detailed in the picture.

As for how bad it is compared to chains' He's going the easy route and doing monochrome, which I should probably have done.

easy route? It's the non-retarded route, and it is the technique most digital artists use today. Greyscale to set up the proper values, then head into color with an overlay. Also trust me I am not doing this in any easy way, the image size is 2800 by 2600 and I am painting all the way zoomed in to where I have to stare at bods face the entire time staring at me with those soulless, un painted eyes.... :smith:

Id like to take a look at the way your layers are set up then to get a better work flow going, this is like my 4th real attmpt at a portrait and am trying to get into the digital flow.

Back ground = filled middle grey color
1st layer= I grab a large brush and set up the shape of everything, usually use a dark grey
2nd layer = using a black small circle brush i begin to mark off details and get accurate shapes for the eyes nose and face. The way I do this is have the picture of the face on this site on a small window next to my drawing, doesn't get good results unless you use a grid, but I hate doing work like that so you just have to deal with the inaccuracies.
3rd layer: I establish a value set on the face by putting down some colors and comparing them to the picture to see if they're accurate. Seeing as I consider the color picker lazy, and the photo itself is not in photoshop or greyscaled, I have to work with the values until I make them perfect. It makes me feel as if this is more traditional and makes me more proud of the work put into it. Once the values are done I work from larger to smaller brushes to make everything defined, and you have to focus on how harsh to make the lines to give it proper depth.
4th layer: I usually do hair on this one, basically I get a brush that splatters tiny dots everywhere, this acts a simple noise on the skin to create stubble, then I go back with a fine tipped square brush about 3 pixels wide and draw in some longer hairs paying attention to the flow of the light to show their direction.
5th layer: I then begin adding color, the advantage of wokring in greyscale is now I can color bod blue for all I care and it would still look realistic
6th layer: I either add more stronger colors using the previous layer as a guide, or I get a large brush and vignette and lighten the important and non important areas.
7th layer: I use this one for final rendering things and final touches, such as adding texture to the hat and bazooka for a more realistic feel.
That's my basic workflow, but I never always conform to it perfectly.
