Intel® Pentium® Dual Core Processor ULV SU4100 (1.30GHz, 2MB, 800MHz)
Or
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo SU7300(1.3GHz,800MHz,3MB)

I don't really see the benifit of the extra 1MB cache... Plus the top has 2 cores. Firs tone is cheaper as well. (In a laptop btw)

There is more benefit than just the 1MB cache. Besides, what's the price tag? Maybe an X4 would be even cheaper :S Come to the AMD side

This is the customization thing with Dell, I have a choice of either one. Fuck building my own, cba.

It's a laptop btw.

no brainer here, go with the core 2 duo.

pentium duel cores are shit.

Pentium dual cores are the same architecture as Core 2 Duos. :downs:

Just play it safe and get the C2D dude.

I would definitely go for the Core 2 Duo, definitely a better processor.

Hunter

Okay, it does add an extra £30 to the patop Lol. £870 (roughtly) with 4GB DDR3 (1200MHz) and other cany stuff.

wait your getting 4gb DDR3 ram and that processor?

maybe it's just me or is that ass backwards.

It's a Dell.

Warsaw
March 13th, 2010, 08:30 PM
It's an Alienware M11x (which is still a Dell, but a good one).

Hunter
March 13th, 2010, 08:43 PM
Might of helped if I mentioned that ay? lol.

Warsaw
March 13th, 2010, 08:48 PM
Well, if a computer is offering those two CPUs, it's obviously an ultraportable of some kind (and the M11x is just that). That being said, those two CPUs are literally identical in every respect save for the 1MB extra cache on the Core 2 Duo. So yes, they will perform about the same, though that extra cache may bump you up a hair when you are throwing a lot of instructions at the CPU.

Ah yeah well, I seem to have dated myself with that statement. A friend of mine bought one of the first Pentium dc's produced & shittiness ensued. So my bad.

Hunter
March 13th, 2010, 09:32 PM
So, overall which is better? First one takes like £30 of overall price :/

AAA
March 13th, 2010, 09:54 PM
It's a Dell.

:golfclap:

Considering the speeds, I feel as though you should just look at pricing. They are essentially the same thing, you honestly won't see a difference.

Warsaw
March 13th, 2010, 09:56 PM
Well, is there something you want to get right now with that extra 30 quid? If not, go for the Core 2. If so, go for the Pentium. It's a CULV processor, so there isn't much to fret over in the first place.

Hunter
March 13th, 2010, 10:03 PM
Thing is it will take me longer to get that extra £30 Lol. I only have £580 in my savings account atm, and I don't have a steady income of cash apart from my £30 a week EMA which I live of, e.g. food, gym, personal fun ect...

So I think I will go for the cheaper one, depends if I manage to get a good amount of cash. I plan on getting a Full HD 42" TV as well after Lol, damn I need a job.

Warsaw
March 13th, 2010, 10:04 PM
Would have helped to know that ahead of time, too. I would say go with the Pentium. If it were me though, I would go all out and get the Core 2....but then again if I were buying a laptop I'd go all out and buy one of those 17" or 18.4" laptops with an i7 and dual graphics cards and say fuck battery life.

I'd save up for a few more weeks and get the better CPU unless you absolutely need the computer this second.

The CPU is probably soldered into the socket, so there's no chance of replacing it in the future. Might as well go for the higher end of the two since it's a little bit more powerful and you can't really upgrade it in the future :P.

@Warsaw: invest in a chiropractor. My M17X weighs a ton D:

Warsaw
March 14th, 2010, 07:05 PM
I can take it...srs! :D

Mobile CPUs aren't generally soldered into their sockets, and neither are high-end mobile GPUs. Unless Alienware are a bunch of pricks (who knows, they are owned by Dell after all), I think it's a safe bet that he can upgrade it later...from the Pentium to the C2D is literally not worth a $65 increase in price...he'd be better off sacrificing battery life and putting one of the much faster CULV Core 2 Duos in there later, since they all meet the thermal requirements.

Will have it plugged in all of the time anyway probably, fuck battery life.

i made that mistake with a laptop once. killed the battery.

good thing i got a new one as part of a recall.

Batteries are supposed to lose most of their capacity during recharge, so theoretically if it always stays charged, it should last longer.

Hotrod
March 15th, 2010, 03:50 PM
But if it's constantly plugged in, it would be constantly be charging, no?

youre going to game on an 11.6 inch screen? or did i read that wrong?

Warsaw
March 18th, 2010, 11:00 PM
Yes. Nothing wrong with that; at 1366x768, it'll be plenty sharp. He has the option of being able to use the notebook for decent periods away from the socket if he needs to with the M11x, so it's not a bad deal at all. If he needs a bigger screen, he can just use an external monitor.

Batteries these days have complex enough circuitry on them that it doesn't matter anymore.

What once was true is not anymore.

I mean they'll still die, but they'll roughly die at the same time regardless of what you do to them.
