View Full Version : What do you listen to?

I've been meaning to make this thread for some time now, and I've finally remembered to do so after taking a look at 'What are you listening to?' earlier.

So, here's the deal: you don't list just one artist that you're currently listening to, but EVERY artist that you listen to. I'm not looking to make the other thread obsolete, but instead have this one run alongside it and expose everyone to each others musical tastes in a more broad and encompassing way. Just list the artists/groups/bands that you listen to, maybe give a quick description of their genre/style, and if you're feeling up to it, some of your favorite tracks/albums by them, how you heard about them, concerts of theirs you've been to, etc.

Try to keep your list confined to one post, and just edit it to include more artists as you go. It's still perfectly fine to make a post saying "hey, check out this cool band I just heard of today", but also update your initial post to include them. Feel free to comment on other peoples' preferences, but make your posts meaningful and respectful (no "hurr that band sux u suk for liking them" idiocy).

Alrighty, I'll list some in the order they are in from my music folder. Note that I listen to a lot of rock starting back as early as the 50s and there are a lot of artists missing but I did not include any names on this list of artists where I only listen to one or two of their songs.

AC/DC
Aerosmith
Alan Parsons Project
Alice Cooper
Apocalyptica - To be specific, I've listened to most of their albums (personally I find their not-debut album Apocalyptica to be their best with some great guest vocalists) and I've been to two of their live shows in Vancouver.
Bachman-Turner Overdrive
The Barenaked Ladies
The Beach Boys
The Beatles
Billy Joel
Black Sabbath
Bob Seger
Bon Jovi
Booker T and the MGs
Boston
Bryan Adams
The Cars
Cheap Trick
Cream
Creedence Clearwater Revival
David Bowie
Deep Purple
Dick Dale and the Del-Tones
The Doobie Brothers
The Doors
Dr Hook and the Medicine Show
Duran Duran
The Eagles - Listened to most of their albums, and have watched Hell Freezes Over and the Farewell 1 Tour. Overall, I really enjoy most of their rock-ish music and some of their country music.
The Electric Light Orchestra
Elton John
Eric Clapton
Foreigner
Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons
Genesis
Grand Funk Railroad
Great Big Sea - Have a few of their albums and one live DVD; went to one of their concerts in Vancouver a couple years back. Love the way they get everyone enthusiastically clapping and singing along to old folk songs and some folk-ish original content.
The Guess Who
Guns'n'Roses
Hall and Oates
Heart
The Hollies
Huey Lewis and the News
The James Gang
Jesse Cook - Flamenco-style guitarist from Montreal; great for times when I need something easy to listen to.
Jethro Tull
Joe Walsh
John Cougar Mellencamp
The Knack
Kenny Loggins
KISS
Led Zeppelin
The Little River Band
Loverboy
The Mamas and the Papas
Meat Loaf
Metallica
Michael Jackson
The Moody Blues - Been listening to them growing up; one of my Dad's favourite bands since 1970. Their first major concept album Days of Future Passed released around 1967 and I just saw them in Vancouver at the end of 2009. Very good concept rock, haven't heard a lot that sounds like them.
Pat Benatar - Looking at this list you can tell I don't listen to a lot of female artists. This is possibly because very few of them do rock along with vocals that I can really get into. Pat Benatar's music has the right rock feel to it and when she lets her voice loose it sends shivers down my spine.
Phil Collins
The Proclaimers
Queen
Robert Palmer
The Rolling Stones
Roy Orbison
Steppenwolf
The Sweet
Three Dog Night
Tom Jones
Tom Petty
Tommy James and the Shondells
"Weird Al" Yankovic
The Who
Wolfmother
ZZ Top - Started listening to them around two years ago; haven't heard a song by them I can't listen to.

And that's some of the music I listen to.

Uh... let's see, I have at least one full album of but don't necessarily listen to...

Aerosmith
Green Day
Spin Doctors
Linkin Park
Weird Al Yankovic
Dane Cook
Denis Leary
Limp Bizkit
Nickelback
Pearl Jam

Artists I have a few songs from and like include...
Foo Fighters
The Black Crowes
Steve Miller Band
Motley Crue (too lazy to umlaut, fuck off)
The Offspring
Electric Six
ZZ Top
Rush
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Queens of the Stone Age
Pendulum
Jane's Addiction
Fleetwood Mac
Franz Ferdinand

And various bits from video games new and old; chiptunes, orchestrated, and straight rips.

I Have a fairly open mind and listen to all sorts of weird shit; there's not much in terms of music that turns me off instantly, save for most pop-rock.
