For anyone that has actually played/owned it: Is it worth buying?

Steam has it for like $30 bucks and I was thinking of grabbing it because I had so much fun with Saints Row 1 at my buddy's house. Reviewers had good things to say aside from framerate issues, which they never really say the extent of or what rig they had. And I hope someone can tell me I'm blind because the screenshots I've seen look like the graphics are downgraded from SR1.

E. And no, I don't want GTA4. Vice City forever! :v:

I've watched someone playing it at a LAN party. It kept us entertained for a bit but we stopped watching when it got repetitive. It didn't look worth 30 bucks even.

Saw it for $20 the other day, I'd rather get it for PC but if they did the same job porting it as they did with GTA4 I'll wait till I see it cheap on the 360.

Having finished it on both PC and Xbox I can say that each has it's pros and cons. Official DLC is not available on PC however there is a small modding community that have churned out a few good tweaks. Driving and flying is definitively better on the Xbox. Using WASD is just too twitchy however combat on foot is more focused towards constant, quick movements as opposed to cover based like GTAIV, so I reckon PC works great in that respect. Though the port isn't as optimised as it could be so you may be surprised how poorly it runs on some rigs.

Overall the game is just plain fun. Plenty of side activities to do apart from the extensive main missions. Graphics-wise it's pretty much the same level as SR1. The map is the same with a few major alterations. Character customisation is one of the best I've seen in a game. Multiplayer isn't as good as SR1. I only played it once or twice although there is two-player co-op for free roaming and single player missions.

So yeah, I would recommend it. I've clocked up 80+ hours on it and still go back to it regularly.

It is also worth noting that although it isn't visually a stunner, the PC version is quite a resource hog. My system runs SR2 on highest settings about as fast as it runs Crysis on highest settings... something's wrong there. I've read somewhere that they didn't spend a lot of time optimizing it for the PC.

Yeah I risked it and picked it up. I can run it at full settings easily, though it doesn't support my custom resolution. It does have some horrendous framerate issues, but it's still fun regardless.

Plus I mean, I still play Vice City regularly so I figure it'll run smoother in the future and I'll enjoy it for a long time, sandbox games are just a blast.

Don't get it.

I loved playing it, but the performance is so fucking shit it was a chore after a while.

I have 6g ram, i7 2.6 ghzand a 9800GT oc'd, and it has terrible stutter on load. As you drive, it constantly freezes violently and you end up crashing into almost every car.

Really terrible port. GTA4 as bad running as it is, on my system, runs like a fucking dream. GTA 4 has no performance issues whatsoever, this game however, even after my huge upgrade, still runs like a pos.

That's really odd. I have a 512mb HD4850, 2 gb of cheap ram, and a 2.9ghz dual core. Runs perfect on my system, graphics maxed out and all. Conversely, GTA 4 runs like shit on my computer. I hear the updates to it fixed a lot of the problems, but I assume they were included in the Steam version anyways.
