I dedicate this thread to music appreciation as well as its discussion.
What kind of music do you listen to and why? Do you play music? If so, what? What about it moves you? etc.
I love spanish guitar, bossa nova, salsa piano. For me, it offers challenge when trying to learn to play it on a piano; which is very enjoyable.

Death Metal: I've grown to appreciate the talent involved in making metal music, but 90% of it is garbage. Love drumming, so it has a place with me.

Trance/trance/harcore: Woo I just love this stuff

Jazz: Lots of jazz is godawful, I'm really only a fan of smooth and hardcore jazz chops such as this

Music I dislike:
Rap: It had its time, but now it's just complete shit. Only artist I can tolerate now is kid cudi. With people such as no talent gucci mane getting famous off of horse shit, rap is dead for the moment.
Justin Bieber: Seriously, what the fuck?
Jonas Brothers: Seriously, what the fuck?
Miley Cyrus: Seriously, what the fuck?
There's much more.

Agreeing with Llama. But until it's moved...
I used to really enjoy classical, but college has taught me to hate it so very, very much. Thanks to that, my library has gotten pretty small (minus game soundtracks, which I still like). On top of more popular material (well, okay, not popular. Coldplay isn't all that cool), I'm also getting super interested in 20th century stuff:

and yes, all of those actions are noted in the music. An excerpt I gathered:

There are a few more notations in the rest, but I don't have immediate access to it. Just know that it's way more fun to read/play than all of that other shit I used to like.
Other than that, I've always been faithful to techno/club stuff, Gemini Projekt being the big one at the moment (thanks again Llama Juice).

I listen to a wide variety of music, but classic rock (Queen), smooth jazz (Frank Sinatra/Tom Jones), swing (Brian Setzer), and easy listening (Josh Groban) are my favorite genres.
I've got a long list.

A little bit of everything, which is probably good. I won't start a debate over the merits of hip-hop and rap, but I will say that I enjoy them.

I like mainly all subgenres of metal except for deathcore and some metalcore. I listen to it because it basically has all I want in music.

I pretty much haven't been able to stop listening to Pink Floyd for around 4 years now. So many albums (Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, The Division Bell, The Final Cut, Animals to name some less known ones), all different but with that same feel. Only downside is that to really appreciate them you need to listen to the entire album most of the time.

For those of you have any remote interest in swing music, Brian Setzer Orchestra - Rock this Town.
I am ADDICTED to this song :iamafag:

I personally tend to listen to a bit of a mixture, I listen to rock and metal but while doing my modeling I listen to games and film soundtracks.

Very interesting selections guys. Trinx, sounds like you're into viking/ pirate battle cheer metal. You'd probably like winds of plague.

The bulk of my music would have to be classic rock from the 60s, 70s, 80s... there's something catchy and thoroughly fun about rock'n'roll that simply jives with me. I've been listening to certain metal artists and I also have developed some like for 70s/80s funk and disco. I listen to classical once in awhile and fairly often I listen to Great Big Sea just because the enthusiasm they bring to a lot of the old folk songs creates that same "jive" that I have with rock'n'roll. More recently I've started listening to a bit of flamenco guitar from the likes of Jesse Cook and Rodrigo Figueroa.

I play acoustic, electric and electric bass guitar. Classic rock and folk for the acoustic, classic rock/metal/funk for the electric guitar, and classic rock/funk/disco for the bass. That's what I normally pick around with on those guitars but it really comes down to what I feel like playing at the moment.
I'm not opposed to most genres of music, but most of the rap, hip-hop and "rock" to come out in the last decade or so has done very little for me.
