Almost ate a little bird. I looked out the window to see what they were playing with, and it was this little guy.

:3
I found him and another one, and let them go. But this one went back to my cats. So I decided to try and keep it.
What type of bird is it? And what should I feed it? etc.

I'm not sure what kind of bird it is, but I would recommend trying to feed it bird seeds, you know, those ones you buy at the pet store. That's just off the top of my head though, you might want to do a bit of research.

Judging by its beak it looks like it eats seeds, I can't really tell though, so I'll show you this chart so you can decide.

Their a very common bird. Theres a lot of different sparrows and you can probably find a list of birds on wikipedia for your location.

No, that is not a sparrow. Not even a little. It is a Quail. A baby quail, to be exact. They run around on the ground with their parents right when they hatch, so he can generally get his own food. Just give him bird seed, you dont have to force him to have it he can eat it himself. And a little dish of water, not a bowl, because he will drown.

I found out where it came from, and placed it with the rest of them. Then they all ran away from me.

rofl this reminds me of the time a bird flew into a window at my house. we took it inside and put it in a shoebox with an oven mit inside of it so it would keep warm. we put a lid on the box thought because we didnt want the cats to get to it. so my sister hears that we "caught" a bird and absolutly must see it. well, as soon as she opened the shoebox, the bird flew out into the living room (big fucking room, like 20 foot high ceilings) and the cats went absolutely fucking insane (particularly the one in my avatar). oh except the stupid one. she saw the bird fly into the skylight, pissed herself, then ran away. fuck her.

that's good to hear, they almost always die....at least all the ones i've tried to rescue from cats did. Like vistea said, they're precocious, like chickens, ducks, and geese, and are relatively capable from the start.
last year my dog brought a bunch of baby sparrows up to the house, she was very gentle. we blended earthworms and formula we got from a feed store and fed them with syringes. they still died. I think they were probably already sick, we found two more on the ground near a birdhouse in the yard. mother's will boot the sick ones out of the nest.
